Mobile mammography

The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department Dec. 11.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

GED/Adult classes

Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes on Mon., Tues., and Thurs. from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Wed., from 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359-3425 or 706-359-5769.

Tree lighting

The community is going to circle around the Christmas tree in the town park located behind the MACK in McCormick on Sat., Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. to sing Christmas carols and light the tree. After the event the adults are invited to the MACK to taste some of the punches from the Christmas punch competition. Admission is $5 and you need to be over 21 to attend as some of the punches submitted will be spirited.

Thanksgiving singing

Picking and singing will be held at Metasville School House Thanksgiving night, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. featuring Lizzie Long, Little Roy Lewis and friends, with a variety of music, gospel, bluegrass, etc.

Finger foods will be provided by the ladies of Rehoboth Baptist Church. Everyone is welcome.

AA meets Thurs.

AA will meet at Lincolnton United Methodist Church on Thursdays for the month of November.

Free legal help

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Lincoln County at The Lincoln County Senior Center, 160 May Ave., on Thurs., Dec. 13 from 11:15 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. to meet with senior citizens wanting free non-criminal legal help, on a firstcome, first-serve basis.

If you are unable to meet with them on this date, you may call 1-800-248- 6697 for legal help.

Trees for sale

The Kiwanis Club of Washington is once again selling decorated Christmas wreaths to benefit the youth of Washington-Wilkes. Sale price of the Christmas wreaths is $37 with the proceeds going to fund local youth programs.

The wreaths will be sold at the old bookstore next to Tena's Jewelry and Gifts on Wed., Fri. afternoons and Sat. from 10 a.m. Only seventy-five wreaths were made, so get your quickly.

Board meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

Pioneer Day Nov. 17

Democratic meeting

The Lincoln County Democratic Executive Committee will meet at the Lincoln County Public Library on Mon., Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.

TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/ 50.

Historical society to sponsor Tree of Remembrance

The Lincoln County Historical Society is honored to sponsor The Tree of Remembrance for 2007. It is a highlight of the season for this community, and its lights will shine throughout the Holiday Season. The tree is located at the intersection of Peachtree and Main Streets, near the fountain.

A light "In Honor" or "In Memory" of family and friends can be placed on the tree for a $1.00 donation for each name. A register for the names will be displayed at the Historical Park on Pioneer Day, Saturday, November 17, 10:30 am until 3:00 p.m. Registers will also be displayed at the following locations: City Pharmacy, Crawford-Breazeale Drug Co. and Jericho Florist. Requests may be mailed to: Mrs. Mobley Ross, P. O. Box 245, Lincolnton, GA 30817.

You will be rewarded each time you see the lighted tree, the name listed in The Lincoln Journal and the list displayed at City Hall. Those "In Honor" will be evidence that someone is very special, and those "In Memory" will be remembered by many and in many ways.

All donations will be used for the maintenance and preservation of the Historical Park. Thank you for your participation and support. May your holidays be blessed with faith, hope and love!

Classic Re-Runs open

Classic Re-Runs is a non profit clothes shop specializing in good quality, lightly worn clothes for all sizes. They also have household items, dishes and what-knots. All money is used exclusively for Lincoln County Citizens. Donations are tax deductible.

Classic Re-Runs is located at 108 Main Street, next door to China One. Stop by to check out their half-price sales and specials that change weekly.

Pastor anniversary

The 22nd pastoral anniversary of Rev. Willie J. White will be held at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church on Sun., Dec. 2 at 11:15 a.m.

Holiday tour

McCormick Garden Club will sponsor a Holiday Tour of Homes on Sat., Dec. 8, 1-5 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance, $14 at the door are available from garden club members, The McCray House, Our Place on Main, The MACK, Red Rooster Antiques and at the homes the day of the tour.

Thanksgiving service

The combined Thanksgiving worship service between Mulberry CME Church and Newberry Missionary Baptist Church will be held at Newberry on Wed., Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.

Pancake breakfast

The traditional Firemen's pancake breakfast at the McCormick fire house located in downtown McCormick will be held Sat., Dec. 8 starting at 7 a.m. This works out well since the parade will start at 10 a.m. on the corner of S. Main and Clayton Streets and will proceed on S. Main to end at Santa's workshop at the Dorn Mill, of course Santa will the be highlight of the parade.

This year's parade will be having participants from area churches, Shiners' from Augusta and Greenwood along with neighbors from here and far. Santa will be visiting with the children and for $1 the children can have their picture taken with Santa. Cookies and candy canes will be handed out by his elves. Also the town merchants will be highlighting their wares along with vendors coming in and setting up at 218 S. Main (formerly the Red Rooster) and 126 Augusta St. (beside the Purple Poodle). There will be food provided by the MACK, soup and cornbread will be offered and for a nominal fee desert and beverages. C.D. Youngblood from Greenwood will be selling barbecue sandwiches.

Women's ministry

Turkey shoot Nov. 24

Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will sponsor a turkey shoot on Nov. 24 at the American Legion Fairgrounds from 7 - 10 p.m. Food will be available for purchase.

Revival at GHW A three-night revival will be held at God House of Worship Nov. 28 - 30 at 7:30 p.m. nightly with Pastor John Garrett of Gainesville, Ga. Everyone is invited. Beatrice Mahoney is pastor.
