Beloved educator loses life in motor vehicle accident

BETTY F. CAMPBELL BETTY F. CAMPBELL A Lincoln County woman lost her life in a traffic accident that occurred Thursday, August 23, at 6:18 a.m. on the Thomson Highway, .4 miles north of Fish Dam Road in McDuffie County.

According to a report issued by Sgt. Perry Hobbs of the Georgia State Patrol, Rev. Betty F. Campbell, 52, a music teacher at Mildred E. Freeman Elementary School in Warrenton, was traveling north in her 2001 Honda Odyssey when she was apparently distracted and drifted approximately two feet into the south-bound lane, striking an on-coming 2000 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Tellysavokos Tucker, 29, of Warrenton.

Campbell's vehicle traveled 130 feet before coming to rest facing south on the center line of the highway; whereas, the truck went into an uncontrolled skid and jack-knifed, blocking both lanes of traffic, over 200 feet from the point of impact, stated Sgt. Hobbs.

Rev. Campbell was flown to the Medical College of Georgia's Trauma Unit by Gold Cross Air-Med. She passed away on Sunday, August 26, at MCG.

The driver of the truck was uninjured in the accident.
