John Thomas Zellars
JOHN THOMAS ZELLARS Mr. John Thomas Zellars entered into rest on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the Medical College of Georgia.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 8 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Elizabeth Harris officiating. Interment followed at Harmony Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Zellars was born to the late Robert Roberts and Alice Williams Zellars on September 1, 1934. He was joined in Holy matrimony to Doris Virginia Gunby Zellars December 21, 1961. To this union seven children were born. After the death of Doris on May 10, 1987, he later married Elease Appling McCord on March 20, 1990.
He was a member of New Birth Holiness Church and retired after thirty-six years of truck driving.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; one son, Grescenie Zellars; and one brother, Robert Zellars.
Survivors include his wife, Elease McCord Zellars; two sons, Gregory (Rebecca) Zellars and Godfrey (Felicia) Zellars, both of Lincolnton; six daughters, Grescenia Zellars, Sharon Gunby, Regina Gunby, Ruby L. Beard and Mattie Christian, all of Lincolnton, and Carolyn (Harry) Elam of Grovetown, Ga.; two step-daughters, Brenda (Wallace) Norman and Sharonda (Jonathan) Elam, both of Lincolnton; two step-sons, Justin (Junita) Appling of Thomson, Ga. and Bruce McCord of Augusta; three sisters, Ann Cullars and Nanleen (Floyd) Freeman, both of Lincolnton and Essie Mae Kelly of Ware Shoals, S.C.; one brother, Willie C. Williams, Sr. of Lincolnton; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Pastor Elizabeth Harris of Lincolnton and Betty (Wayne) Bussey of Lexington, N.C.; two brothers-in-law, Larry Appling and Willie P. Appling, both of Atlanta, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers were nephews. Flower bearers were nieces.
Norris W. Gunby, Sr. Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
