Community Calendar

Fishing tourney A fishing tournament will be held Sat., June 2 at Cox Farm for boys and girls up to age 16, from 9 a.m. - 12 noon. Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Prizes will be awarded and lunch will be served. The Cox Farm is located off Leathersville Road. For more information or directions, call Leon Cox at 359- 1802.

Mobile mammography

The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department on May 29 and June 19.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

Pastor appreciation

White Rock Baptist Church will have Pastor Appreciation Sun., May 27 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Kenneth B. Martin and Antioch Baptist Church of Augusta, will be in charge of the services. Dinner will be served. The public is invited. Rev. Seymore Harrison, Sr., is pastor.

GED/Adult classes

Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes on Mon., Tues., and Thurs. from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Wed., from 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. For more information, please call 706-359-3425 or 706-359-5769.

Family fun day

The Lincoln County Historical Society will sponsor Family Fun Day on Wed., June 6 beginning at 10 a.m. Games, tours, contests and demonstrations are planned. Members and prospective members are invited to come and bring their families. The plan is to show off the park and show off our grandkids. Prizes for most grandchildren present, youngest great-grandmother, youngest grandchild, tallest 10-year-old and so forth, will be awarded. A hot dog and ice cream lunch is planned.

Check with your busy families and get them to mark their calendar. We will need to RSVP to make plans. More details will follow in The Lincoln Journal. Donations welcomed

Baseball camp

Youth Baseball Camp will be held for children in upcoming grades 3 - 8 at the Lincoln County Recreation Department May 29 - 31 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon. Cost is $30. Deadline to register is May 25. Call Coach Matthews at 706-359-3708 for more details.

ACS offers RtoR prog.

The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home.

Ten year reunion

Letters have been mailed to those whose addresses we have to members of LCHS class of 1997. If you did not receive a letter and need information about the 10 year reunion to be held June 9, please contact Jennie Wilkinson McWhorter at 706- 359-2469.

Drawing for LCD TV

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Little League will be selling tickets for a wall mountable LCD TV/DVD player combo, 32" wide screen. The drawing will be held June 4. You do not have to be present to win.

Tickets are $1 each and may be purchased at Farmers & Merchant's Bank or any little league member. The TV may be seen at Farmers & Merchant's Bank.

Breast health class

University Health Care System Breast Health Center will sponsor a breast health class at Lincoln County Health Department May 29, 8:30 - 2:45. No registration, no charge.

Drop in for breast health information; learn proper breast self-exam techniques, and the importance of yearly mammograms. Register for a chance to win a gift!

Appointments are required for mammograms, please call 706-359- 3154 to schedule your mammogram. We accept Medicare and most insurance plans.

Kids' Camp

New Hope will be hosting its annual Kids' Camp June 15 - 16 for kids ages 4 - 14. The hours will be Fri., 6 - 9:30 p.m., and Sat., 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. A Lock-In will also be held for kids ages 10 - 14.

Auxiliary meeting The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 194 will have a very important meeting on May 29, 7 p.m. at the post home. All members need to attend this meeting for the purpose of the July 4th week at the post home fairgrounds.

Golf tourney

A 4-Man Scramble Golf Tournament will be held Sat., June 2, 8:30 a.m. at Rocky Branch Golf Course. The community is encouraged to participate.

Cost is $150 per team. Proceeds will benefit Lincoln County Food Pantry and Ministerial Association. Lunch will be provided and there will be a drawing for prizes.

Legal assistance

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) will be in Lincoln County at The Lincoln Center, 160 May Avenue, to meet with seniors wanting free non-criminal legal help, on a firstcome, first-serve basis. They will meet on Mon., June 11 11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.

If you are unable to meet with them this day, you may call 1-800-248- 6697 to talk with them during normal business hours.

Revival at Parks

Parks Grove FBH Church will be in revival Wed., May 23 - Fri., May 25. Service begins at 7:30 p.m. nightly with Bishop Robert Parks of Charleston, S.C. Rev. Tonita Cody is pastor.

Doughnut sale

JV cheerleaders will be at Fast Times, Farmers State Bank, and Bell's Food Market on Sat., May 26 from 8 a.m. until selling doughnuts.

All sells and donations will go to the Lincoln County Red Devil Junior Varsity Cheerleaders. Please come out and support our cheerleaders.
