Artist's group helps community

The Artisan's Gallery Shop located in the McCormick Arts Council at the Keturah (MACK) in McCormick SC, just concluded two years of successful operations.

The gift shop, once operated by the MACK, was taken over by a group of approximately 45 local artists and crafters as a place to show and sell their creations. It boasts artists and craftspeople from McCormick, Edgefield, Lincolnton, Greenwood and many other small towns and communities within a hour and one half drive of McCormick. They feature hundreds of arts and crafts such as paintings, stained glass, textiles, painted gourds, clothes, music boxes, pottery and jewelry to name a few. The artists themselves serve as the salespeople, operating the Shop Monday through Saturday from 10 am. to 4 p.m.

The shop, which has recently been featured in the Living in South Carolina magazine, helps the MACK in its local cultural endeavors by donating up to 30 percent of its sales to the operation of the Council. The Shop also brings folks into the McCormick Arts Council who may never before visited an art gallery.. The McCormick Arts Council features art exhibitions each month from local area artists.

This is a good example of what a group of concerned citizens can do when they pull together to enrich the local cultural atmosphere.
