Chris Reid and Courtney Janssen were named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the LCHS Class of 2007 at the 29th Annual Academic Honors Night held Thursday, May 10, in the school cafeteria.

Reid's parents are Lisa and Chris Reid, and Janssen is the daughter of Karen and Ron Janssen.

The award is given to all of the honor graduates who participated in sports their senior year. This group of scholar-athletes (18) marks the largest in the school's history.

American Legion Post 194 Scholarship: Jaime Turner.

Twilight Improvement Association Scholarship: Kim Norman.

Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Honorarium: Hilary Aycock and Tawanna Wright.

Also during the evening, Nancy Hohlwein, president of the Lincolnton Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, presented cash awards and framed certificates to STAR Student Chris Reid and STAR Teacher Mark Flowers. The Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition program is sponsored locally by the chamber.

Hohlwein likewise presented the honor graduates with gold honor tassels and cords, purchased by the chamber of commerce.

Others receiving recognition this year were those juniors who earned the "pass plus" distinction in all four subject areas of the Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT). They were: Kendrick Anthony, Whitley Arrowood, Kitty Ball, Julie Bennett, Roger Boyle, Hannah Crook, Kayla Crookham, Janelle Dukes, Brooke Epps, Asonta Johnson, Kimber Kirkland, Emmi Layton, Sara Anne Remsen, Nikolas Spens, Christina Tankersley, and Abigail Minor.

There is no pass plus designation on the writing portion of the GHSGT.

Next, those students who scored the highest grades on each section of the graduation test were singled out for special recognition. They were as follows:

English and Language Arts: Abigail Minor.

Mathematics: Whitley Arrowood, Brooke Epps, and Abigail Minor.

Science: Kitty Ball and Christina Tankersley.

Social Studies: Roger Boyle.

Writing: Kitty Ball, Taylor Goldman, and Abigail Minor.

The ceremony also included recognition of the members of the literary and debate teams by Lee Robinson, literary coordinator at LCHS. She further congratulated the LCHS Girls Trio for winning first-place honors at the state Class A competition.

Academic honors night was sponsored by the Lincoln County Academic Booster Club and the Herrf- Jones Company of Athens.
