Secretary of State sets qualifying dates for special election
The dates for qualifying for the Special Election to fill the 10th District Congressional seat vacated by the passing of Charlie Norwood have been set by Karen Handel, Georgia's secretary of state.
According to Handel, qualifying will take place Tuesday, April 24, through Thursday, April 26, at the Elections Division of the Office of Secretary of State, located at 1104 West Tower, 2 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, SE, Atlanta.
Qualifying will run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until 12 noon on Thursday. The fee is $4,950.
In addition to Lincoln County, the 10th District also includes Banks, Clarke, Columbia, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Habersham, Hart, Jackson, Madison, McDuffie, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Putnam, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Wilkes, and part of Richmond County.
The Special Election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 19.
District residents have until Monday, May 21, to register to vote in the election.
