Walton receives high honors at Augusta State University
Dr. Chad Stephens (l), chemistry professor at Augusta State University, awards LeAnn Walton with the John W. Pearce Award. LeAnn Walton, a junior biology student at Augusta State University, recently received several high honors at the university.
LeAnn was one of eighteen members of the junior class inducted into the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. For juniors, the criteria for membership includes being in the top 7.5 percent of the class while achieving a 3.8 cumulative grade point average or better.
She was also recently awarded the John W. Pearce award for achievement in Organic Chemistry at Augusta State University's Honors Convocation. This honor is given to the stu- dent with the highest average in the two-course sequence of Organic Chemistry each year. This award was presented to LeAnn by her chemistry professor, Dr. Chad Stephens. She also worked with Dr. Stephens on a research project dealing with creating new fluorinated compounds.
In addition to being inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, LeAnn was inducted into the biological honor society Beta Beta Beta in February.
LeAnn is the daughter of Larry and Diane Walton and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Goolsby and Mrs. Ruby Walton of Lincolnton.
