Hawkes speaks at CCLC meeting
      The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County met at 6:30 p.m. on March 15 at the public library. Commissioner Mike Hawkes of district three was guest speaker. Mr. Hawkes opened his presentation talking about the 15 new developments in the county. He stated he was proud of the format that had been developed by the commissioners covering the roads, landscaping, etc.

Walton receives high honors at Augusta State University
      LeAnn Walton, a junior biology student at Augusta State University, recently received several high honors at the university. LeAnn was one of eighteen members of the junior class inducted into the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. For juniors, the criteria for membership includes being in the top 7.5 percent of the class while achieving a 3.8 cumulative grade point average or better.

Jesse Andrews named 3rd Infantry Division's top NCO

      The United States Achievement Academy announced recently that Brandon O'Neill of Lincolnton, has been recognized for academic achievement as a United States National Honor Student Award winner. Brandon, who attends Lincoln County Middle School will appear in the United States Achievement Academy's Official Yearbook which is published nationally.

Governor declares March as Eye Donor Month in Ga.
      Governor Sonny Perdue has proclaimed March 2007 as Eye Donor Month in Georgia. The proclamation urges all Georgians to give the Gift of Sight by making the decision to become an eye donor and discussing their wishes with their families. Several Georgia Eye Bank staff members attended the signing ceremony at the state Capitol.

Biles named to merit list at Brenau Univ.
      Brooks Biles, of Lincolnton was named to the merit list at Brenau University for fall semester 2006. Merit list students must maintain a 3.5 grade point average while carrying 12 to 14 semester hours of course work. Brenau University is a quality driven, student-centered private university offering more than 30 baccalaureate and graduate programs with liberal arts foundations.
