Evening of dining

Newberry Mass Choir will present an evening of dining and entertainment at The Lincoln Center on Sat., March 24, 2007 from 6 - 9 p.m. featuring Christian comedian - Genesis; guitarist - Robert Reid; praise dancer - Aminah Walton; and soloists - La Marrio Harden, Aresha Freeman and Bernard Harrison.

Cost is $30 for adults; $50 for couples and $18 for ages 12 and under. Trip to New York

Parks Grove Church is sponsoring a trip to New York, April 26 - 29, for ladies only, to see The Color Purple on Broadway. Cost is $400 per person which includes transportation, 2 nights at Embassy Suites Hotel and ticket to the play.

Benefit barbecue

A benefit barbecue chicken plate sale will be held for the Travis Ivey family to help with medical expenses due to Taffy's illness over the past two years.

Plates will cost $6 each and may be picked up at the City Fire Department on April 7 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Homecoming services

Lincolnton United Methodist Church will be celebrating homecoming on Sun., April 22 at 10:30 a.m. A barbecue covered dish lunch will follow. Revival services will continue through Wednesday night, April 25.

Installation service

St. Luke Baptist Church will hold its installation service of Rev. Alvin Rivers on Palm Sunday, April 1, 2007 at 3 p.m. at The Lincoln Center. Rev. Favors and the Springfield Baptist Church family will be in charge of the service.

Mini golf tourney

Elijah Clark State Park invites you to bring the entire family to the Masters Week Parent/Child Mini Golf Tournament. Each team consisting of one parent and one child will play 18 holes of mini golf. The tournament will be held Wed., April 4. Tee times are available between 1 and 3 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top fin- ishers, best-dressed team, longest traveled, and the first hole in one. Cost is $2 to $3 per child; we ask that you register ahead of time to get your tee time. Entry fee includes use of golf clubs, balls, greens and there will be complimentary hot dogs and soft drinks.

Classes of 1942 - 1967 from Lincolnton Colored High School and Lincoln County Training School, will meet Sun., March 25, 4 p.m. at the library. Please plan to attend.

TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/50.

Mobile mammography The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department on April 17 and May 29.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

Memorial trail ride

The Terry Tankersley Memorial Trail Ride at Bussey Point Recreation Area in Lincolnton will be held Sat., March 31. Ride horseback on your own from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. through the 2,500 acres of wilderness bound by 32 miles of shoreline. Cost is $5 per horse. Concession will be available for lunch on the point on Saturday only, no dogs please. Call the chamber office at 706-359-7970 for directions and more information. Primitive camping is also available.

Repub. to meet

The Lincoln County Republican Party will meet March 24, 9 a.m. in the Dova Partridge Annex for the Election District Mass Meeting with the County Convention to follow at 10 a.m.

The purpose of the meetings are to adopt rules as necessary, elect officers and a county committee to serve until the next County Convention or Primary.

The Congressional District Convention is scheduled for April 21, 2007 at the Classic Center in Athens.

Turkey shoot

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will have a turkey shoot March 24 at the American Legion Fairgrounds from 7 - 10 p.m. Come on down, homemade potato soup, chili, and hot dogs will be available at the fair booth.

Prog. at Pleasant Grove

Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church will celebrate Men and Women Day Sun., April 1 at 2 p.m. Rev. Neal and the Harmony Baptist Church family will be special guests.

Board meetings

The regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Elections and Voter Registration will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Board of Elections, The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA 30817, any changes to the schedule dates or alternate dates for meetings occurring on holidays will be posted.

ACS offers RtoR prog.

The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home.

Looking for members

We are trying to start the volunteer firefighters ladies auxiliary again! I have spoken with several women that are interested in getting this auxiliary back together. I personally think this is very beneficial to the local fire departments. The Augusta Dominators, an 18 and under fastpitch softball team, is located in Appling, Georgia. We are currently in need of girls interested in playing travel ball. Womens conference

Faith Tabernacle Church, 249 Faith Lane in Lincolnton, will sponsor a women's conference March 30, 7 p.m. and March 31, 8:30 a.m. The conference will consist of three individual workshops on finances, health and spiritual growth. Keynote speaker will be Bishop Gracy Jackson of Augusta.

There is no cost for this conference.

Classic Re-Runs

Classic Re-Runs is a non profit clothes shop specializing in good quality, lightly worn clothes for all sizes. They also have household items, dishes, and what-knots. All money is used exclusively for people with a medical emergency in Lincoln County. Donations are tax deductible.

Revival services

Revival services will be held at Solomon Pool Holiness Church, Washington, March 23 - 24 at 7:30 p.m. nightly. Members of Solomon Pool Deliverance Ministries will be in charge of the services. Pastor Peggy Zellars will be the guest speaker.

Free legal help

Georgia Legal Services Program staff will be in Lincolnton to meet with senior citizens wanting free noncriminal legal help, on a first-come, first-serve basis on Wed., April 18 from 11:15 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., at the Lincoln County Senior Center, 160 May Ave.

Apply for honorarium

High school seniors may apply for an honorarium sponsored by the Lincoln Wilkes Retired Educators Association. The students must plan to attend a college or vocational school for the 2007 - 2008 academic year and write a 250 - 500 word essay on the topic "The Importance of Furthering My Education."

Please provide a cover page with your name, date, name of high school and the name of college or vocational school you plan to attend. Deadline for essay to be submitted to your high school counselor is Fri., March 30.

GHSGT testing

The Georgia High School Graduation Test will be given the week of March 26 through March 30 according to the following schedule: Mon., March 26 - language arts; Tues., March 27 - math; Wed., March 28 - social studies; Thurs., March 29 - science; and Fri., March 30 - make-up testing.

All tests will be given at 8:15 each morning.

Chicken plate sale

A barbecue chicken plate sale with all the trimmings and a bake sale will be held Sat., March 24 beginning at 11 a.m. at Beulah Fire Department, Hwy. 79, Tignall, to raise funds to build a family life center at Beulah Baptist Church. All proceeds will go to the fund.

Turkey shoot

The Sons of American Legion Squadron 194 will hold a drawing on Sat., March 24, at the turkey shoot, for a Remington 1187 Sportsman 12 gauge black synthetic 2 ¾ inch and 3 inch Rem-Choke Barrel. You do not have to be present to win. Tickets are $2 or three for $5. Contact any Sons member for tickets. All proceeds will benefit the Sons.

Chorale auditions

Augusta Children's Chorale is auditioning this spring for interested singers for their 2007 - 2008 season. Auditions are available for children in third through eighth grades.

Both training and performance choirs offer in-depth vocal choral training with local, national and international performance opportunities. A limited number of openings will be filled. Scholarships are available. Call the ACC at 706-826-4718 for an appointment.

Computer classes

Computer literacy classes for beginners and intermediates will be held on Mon., Wed., and Fri. beginning Mon., April 9 for three weeks. Beginners will be held from 12:30 - 2:30 and intermediates will be held from 3 - 5 p.m. in the computer lab located at McCormick Adult Education Center, 615 Clayton St. (previously McCormick Elementary School).

Breast health class

The University Health Care System Breast Health Center will sponsor a breast health class at Lincoln County Health Department. No registration and no charge. The class will be held April 17 from 8:30 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. Drop in for breast health information, learn proper breast self exam techniques and the importance of yearly mammograms and register to win a free gift.

Appointments are required for mammograms. Please call 706-359- 3154 to schedule your mammogram. We accept Medicare and most insurance plans.

Barbecue supper

An old fashioned barbecue supper and gospel singing will be held at Purvis School House located on Ga. 17 between Wrens and Thomson on Sat., March 31 at 5 p.m. featuring The Harmony Boys Quartet and Your Hope Singers.

Barbecue plates for eat-in or take out will be sold for $8 each. A $5 donation will be taken at the door for those who do not eat. Portions of the proceeds will go to Purvis School House.

Movie Night

Movie Night will be held at The Lincoln Center on Friday, March 30 from 6:00 until 8:30 p.m. for children ages Pre-K through fifth grade. Admission is $3.00 per person with all you can eat popcorn and drinks. Door prizes will be given away. Please bring something soft to sit on.
