Goldman named assoc. director of operations at Augusta VA
      John S. Goldman was appointed the Augusta VA Medical Center Associate Director for Operations on January 7, 2007. Goldman began his VA career in Augusta as an administrative officer for the Radiology Department. Since then, he has held positions of increasing responsibility and comes to Augusta from the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center where he was the Deputy Director.

Register now for Royal Ranger's Pinewood Derby
      The Royal Ranger's Outpost 106 will conduct its annual Pinewood Derby race on Feb. 24, in the Family Life Center at First Assembly of God on Thomson Hwy. The race is open to all boys in the county between the ages of five and 14. There will also be a category that includes all girls and boys ages 3-4. There is no charge to enter.

      If your backyard pecan trees supply the nuts for your seasonal pecan pies, University of Georgia experts say it's time to fertilize them for next season. Fertilize home-landscape pecan trees at least once a year, preferably in February, said Wade Hutcheson, the UGA Cooperative Extension Coordinator in Spalding County, Ga.

Corps of Engineers offers recycled Christmas trees
      Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces the remainder of trees from the Christmas tree recycling program is available at several boat ramp sites. Tree of Remembrance
      The Tree of Remembrance for 2006 was very successful. A final listing which was recently received is "In Memory" of Nellie P. Hawes by La'shay Elam, Judy H. Harvey and Kendra Harvey. The donations will be used for the maintenance and preservation of the Historical Park, but the gifts of thoughtfulness, honor, remembrance, and love given by each donor are so special and will go on and on and on.

County receives dividend from ACCG-GSIWCF
      Lincoln County has received a dividend in the amount of $10,327 from the Association County Commissioners of Georgia-Group Self- Insurance Workers' Compensation Fund (ACCG-GSIWCF). The money represents the county's share of a $3 million dividend declared by the ACCGGSIWCF Board of Trustees.
