Students, parents enjoy career fair

Over 60 students and approximately 25 parents took part in the LCHS Career Fair held Thursday, January 25, in the school cafeteria. The event was sponsored by the school's guidance and CTAE (Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education) departments.

"The goal of the fair was to expose those LCHS students who may not seek a bachelor's degree (70 percent nationwide) to potential careers available here in Lincoln County," said Ellen Butler, high school guidance counselor.

The career fair was set up to provide students with information regarding specific types of careers. The students were given information such as:

.. What a typical day is like.

.. What high school courses would be beneficial in preparing them for a particular career.

.. The opportunities for advancement.

.. The status of the job market.

"The response from both the students and the presenters was overwhelmingly positive," noted Butler. "It was a great experience, and we hope to repeat it next year."

The following individuals, businesses, and organizations took part in the fair: Clay and Beth Antonakos, Lee Builders; Jim Aycock and Al Danner, Georgia Power; Dr. Becky Barden, LCHS principal; Maria Bradford, Farmers State Bank.

Meg Burg, planning and zoning director for Lincoln County; Cherrie Campbell, sponsor of the FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) chapter at LCHS; Dr. Elizabeth Chamblin, Julie Langham, Ken Jones, and Robin Yendell, Augusta Technical College.

Joann Collins, CTAE coordinator at LCHS; Susan DeFoor, DeFoor Realty; Ernie Doss, director of the Lincoln County Department of Public Safety; Janet Dukes, LCHS business teacher.

Sean Egan, Orkin Pest Control; Brian Henderson, Henderson Logging & Midway Forest Products; Molly Johnson, Foothills Area Health Education Center; Keri Brown, Georgia Visitor Information Center; Bryan Koch and Jimmy Patrick, MEDAC.

Butler expressed her gratitude to all of the presenters for taking the time out of their busy schedules to offer guidance and encouragement to the students at LCHS.
