Little League registration

Lincoln County Little League registration is currently underway at three convenient locations, Cliatt Crossing, Farmers and Merchants Bank and Goldman & Wengrow. Girls and boys age 5 - 16 are encouraged to sign up for a great season of baseball. Deadline to register is Feb. 16.

Youth group trip

If you are planning on traveling to Disney World with the Newberry Baptist Church Youth Group this year, you will need to contact one of the following coordinators as soon as possible. There are only 15 seats left! A deposit is needed to secure a seat.

Space available

The Lincoln County Pre-K Program has spaces available at this time for the 2006 - 2007 school year.

Children must have been four years of age on or before September 1. Children may attend who ae five years of age. The family must be a resident of Lincoln County.

LWREA to meet

The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Association (LWREA) will meet Thurs., Feb. 8 at Southern Elegance Bed and Breakfast, 115 West Robert Toombs Avenue, Washington, at 11 a.m.

Please bring your awards and recognition sheet. All members, retired educators, and anyone who plans to retire from the field of education, are invited to attend.

Battle of Kettle Creek

The Battle of Kettle Creek will be held Feb. 11, 2 -4 p.m., at Elijah Clark Gravesite.

The commemoration of the 228th Anniversary of the Battle of Kettle Creek will begin with a procession to Elijah Clark's gravesite led by the Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard, with Revolutionary War flags.

Following a wreath ceremony at the gravesite, the public is invited to tour the Log Cabin Museum and enjoy Living History presentations. Admission is free with your $3 park pass.

Spaghetti supper

St. Paul United Methodist Church will have its Valentine Spaghetti Supper Sat., Feb. 10 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. dine in or take out. Cost is $6 a plate for adults, $3 a plate for children.

Valentine giveaway

First Saturday "Valentine Giveaway" will be held in Warrenton on Sat., Feb. 3 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. By shopping on this day, you will qualify for the chance to receive a Valentine gift basket filled with goodies from the area valued at over $300.

Old cards wanted

All old Christmas, birthday, holiday or all occasion cards are needed for the art class at Lincoln County Elementary School. If you have some, please drop them by the school or contact Mrs. Kelly.

TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/50.

Mobile mammography The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department on February 20 and March 13.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department at 359-3154 for more information

Free legal help

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Lincoln County to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal, non-criminal, help on a first-come, first-serve basis at The Lincoln County Senior Center, 160 May Ave., on Wed., Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Valentine retreat

The annual Valentine Retreat sponsored by the Lincoln County Sunday School Union, will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church on Sat., Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Rev. Fred Perriman is pastor.

Computer classes

Computer literacy for beginners and intermediates will be held beginning Tues., Feb. 6 and will be held every Tues./Thurs. for four weeks. Beginners will be held from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. and intermediates will be held from 3 - 5 p.m.

Moore to speak

Renowned author and Bible teacher Beth Moore will speak to tens of thousands of women across North America in a live satellite simulcast based on her new book Get Out of That Pit on Sat., Feb. 24 at McCormick First Baptist Church from 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Boat Smart class

The Thurmond Lake Sail & Power Squadron is offering Boat Smart classes in five Wednesday sessions from 3 - 5 p.m. beginning Feb. 28. Classes will be held at the McCormick Public Library, 201 Railroad Ave., McCormick.

ACS offers RtoR prog.

The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home.

Benefit concert

The Lincoln County Mass Choir is sponsoring a benefit concert to solicit funds for the Barbara Stokes Elam Scholarship. The concert will be held at 6 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 17 at Mulberry CME Church.

Auxiliary to meet

Drawing to be held

The Sons of American Legion Squadron 194 will hold a drawing on Sat., March 24, at the turkey shoot, for a Remington 1187 Sportsman 12 gauge black synthetic 2 ¾ inch and 3 inch Rem-Choke Barrel. You do not have to be present to win. Tickets are $2 or three for $5. Contact any Sons member for tickets. All proceeds will benefit the Sons.

Doughnut sale

The LCHS musical theatre class will be selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts Sat., Feb. 3. Students will be at Farmer's State Bank, Fast Times, and Cliatt's Crossing from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. and will cost $5 per dozen.

Please come out and support these students and enjoy fresh glazed doughnuts! Purchase of doughnuts or donations will be used to help defray the cost of the spring musical "Once Upon A Mattress" which will be performed May 3, 4, 5, 2007 in the LCHS auditorium beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at J. Strom Thurmond Lake will be giving away tree seedlings to property owners living adjacent to the lake through Feb. 18. Seedlings can be picked up at the following locations on the dates indicated:

.. Now through Feb. 18, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., visitors center at the Thurmond Dam located at 510 Clarks Hill Highway, Clarks Hill, S.C.

.. Mon., Feb. 5, 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at entrance to Amity Park on Hwy. 43, Lincolnton.

.. Thurs., Feb. 8, 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Savannah Lakes Village Store on Hwy. 378, McCormick, S.C.

The reforestation program is designed to provide a second-generation forest. Included in the available mix are several types of flowering trees, hardwoods and pine. All trees must be planted on public property.

Evening of praise

Solomon Pool Deliverance Ministries of Lincolnton will have an evening of praise and worship on Sat., Feb. 10 at 5 p.m. featuring different groups and individuals from around the CSRA.

Fund set up for Myers

A fund has been established at Farmers State Bank to help Ray Myers with medical expenses. Ray has recently been diagnosed with cancer and has a long and expensive road ahead of him. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The Lincoln County Health Department has the flu vaccine available. The public is advised to call the health dept. at 706-359-3154 to confirm availability.

Learn sign language

ABC-123's of American Sign Language: A Children's Sign Language Course will be held on Sat., Feb. 10, 17 and 24 at 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. in the MCG Children's Medical Center classroom (BT 1809).

The course teaches basic sign language to children ages 6 to 12 through fun activities, games and skills practice. Those interested in learning another language or in communicating with those who are hearing-impaired are encouraged to sign up. Presented by MCG Health System.

Arbor Day activity

Arbor Day Activity will be held at Elijah Clark State Park on Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. beside the cemetery. Join our volunteers as we prepare the ground for an April planting in our 1700s vintage garden. Admission is free with your $3 park pass.

Our colonial garden was begun in October 2006 with a grant from the Georgia Master Gardeners Association through the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). RSVP and resident volunteers planted daffodils, lilies, and irises around Elijah Clark's gravesite, and staked off two garden plots nearby. The plots were covered with newspaper and mulch for the winter, to soften and prepare the ground for work in February.
