The Lincoln County Middle School girl's basketball team defeated Washington Wilkes Middle by a score of 38-27. Bethany Beggs led all scores with 19 points. Montana Dawkins chipped in seven and Perkita Walton had six.

LCMS opened the game with a quick steal and free throw by Taylor Fernandes. Taylor then injured her ankle and was lost for the game. LCMS led by a score of 5 - 4 after the first quarter. Perkita Walton put fierce pressure on the ball and helped cause several key turnovers in the second quarter. Bethany Beggs had about four steals in the half and scored all eight of LCMS' points in the second quarter.

With the starters on the bench, Washington-Wilkes made a 6 - 0 run and tied the game up. Tiara Wynn made a jumper from the corner and Amanda Sims hit a three with a few seconds left in the quarter and LCMS led 24-22 at the end of the third quarter.

Dawkins and Beggs picked the defense and began to attack the bucket in the fourth quarter. Dawkins drove the basket and made some key layups. Beggs continued her stellar play by making several steals at half court. Beggs and Dawkins both had six points each in the quarter.

Coach Hilton was very pleased with the effort of the girls. "These girls played a great game. I have to thank God for them. They are a wonderful group of girls and should be a group in the future. Taylor got hurt in the first quarter and that hurt us. B. Wade picked up the slack by getting some key rebounds. Wade and Walton are our best rebounders. We had two girls to quit the team and added Bethany. She made a big difference in the game. She is going to be a great player. Coach Leverett and I were pleased to see Montana attack the basket the way she did. We have to get ready for a good Taliferro team on Monday." LCMS faced Taliferro County the following week and lost by a score of 30- 20. Beggs led LCMS scorers with eight points. Taylor Fernandes, Perkita Walton, and Montana Dawkins each scored four points. The lady devils stayed close, but the shots would not fall in the second half.

The middle school boys won their first game of the year against Taliferro. Coach Hickman is doing a great job with the boys.
