Martin L. Flowers

MR. MARTIN L. FLOWERS
Mr. Martin L. Flowers, 77, beloved husband of fifty-five years to Mrs. Charlene Pope Flowers, entered into rest Monday, November 27, 2006 at his home.

At his request Mr. Martin was cremated and a memorial service was held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, S.C., with Pastor Elsie Odom officiating. Interment followed at a later date in Sunset Memory Gardens, Langley, S.C.

Born in Darlington, S.C., he was the son of the late Grover, Sr. and Thelma Louise Hatchel Flowers. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Missouri, better known as the "Mighty Mo." He moved to Aiken, S.C. in 1952 where he began his career as a E & I Mechanic at E.I. DuPont and retired in 1989 after thirty-six years of service. After he retired, he and Charlene set out to see the country in their motor home. They relocated to Lincolnton in 2001. Pete, as he was affectionately known by his family, attended Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Gloverville, S.C. and had also formerly coached Little League Baseball. A craftsman, he enjoyed working with wood and had built three homes himself.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Grover Flowers, Jr.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Martin Douglas Flowers, (Paulette) of New Ellenton, S.C., Steven L. Flowers, (the late Terri) of Columbia, S.C., L. Renyea Feaster, (Ray) of Aiken, S.C., Timothy N. Flowers, (the late Faye) of Lincolnton, and Jeffrey J. Flowers of North Augusta, S.C.; a sister, Louise F. Isaac, (the late Joseph) of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials be made to United Hospice, 2604 Commons Blvd., Augusta, GA 30909.

Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.
