TSGT Edward R. Benson

TSGT Edward R. Benson, U.S. Air Force Retired, 70, husband of Margaret Walls Benson of Hinton St., entered into rest on Sunday, December 3, 2006 at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5 at First Assembly of God with Revs. Lanis Lewis and Terry Bonds officiating. Interment followed in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens in Thomson, Ga. with full military honors.

Mr. Benson, a native of Hazlehurst, was retired from the U.S. Air Force. Afterwards, he lived in Savannah where he later retired from Gulfstream Aerospace. He has been a resident of Lincoln County for the

past twelve years. He was also an ordained deacon and founding member of Raysville Baptist Church. He most recently united with First Assembly of God in Lincolnton.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Walls Benson; a son, Ralph Benson of Savannah, Ga.; a daughter, Edwana B. Cowart of Boiling Springs, S.C.; two brothers, Lee Benson of Ellabelle, Ga. and O.C. Benson of Savannah; four sisters, Lavonia Howell, Vernell Burgess, Maudine Ricks, and Joyce Williams, all of the Savannah area; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton, was in charge of arrangements.
