Community Calendar TIA Helping Hand The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/50. All donations are welcome, we will pick up. Your donations are appreciated. The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home. Fall concert The Lincoln County Middle School and High School choral departments will present their fall concert Sat., Nov. 18 at Lincolnton Baptist Church at 7:30 p.m. Featured music for this concert are folk songs from around the world. Tickets are being sold by any middle school or high school choir student for $5.00 or in the middle school office from Mrs. Hardeman. There will be no ticket sales at the door the evening of the concert. Toy Run Dec. 9 Lincoln Iron Horse will hold its annual Toy Run on Saturday, December 9 beginning at 10:00 a.m. Help with heat The Energy Assistance Program began taking applications Wed., Nov. 1 for homebound and elderly 65 years and older households to pay their home heating costs. If funds are available, it will be opened to the general public Fri., Dec. 1. Applications for Lincoln County will be taken at The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Nov. 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. only. Play Nov. 20 The LCHS Region 7-A runner-up one-act play cast will be presenting their rendition of Steel Magnolias on Mon., Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. In addition to the play, several students will be presenting interpretation pieces that they have learned in class and/or performed in compe- tition. Tickets, which are $5 in advance and $6 at the door, may be purchased in advance from any cast member or from Mrs. Robinson. Plate sale benefit A barbecue plate sale to benefit Larry Beggs and his family will be held Sat., Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Plates may be picked up at Paradise BBQ or Lincolnton City Fire Department. Please call Billy Jo Paradise at 706-359-6157. 59 MET at MBC Morningside Baptist Church will host a 59 Minutes of Evangelism Training (59 MET)Session on Tues., Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. 59 MET was developed by the Georgia Baptist Convention to help churches train and encourage every member to be soul-winners for Jesus Christ. Training sessions last 59 minutes and involve biblical teaching, sharing personal testimony, keeping a prayer list and proven strategies on leading people to Jesus. The event is open to everyone. Festival Off Main The 4th Annual Thomson Festival Off Main will be held Sat., Dec. 2. Community Thanksgiving Lincolnton United Methodist Church will host this year's Community Thanksgiving Service on Sun., Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. Rev. Lanis Lewis, co-pastor of First Assembly of God, will bring the message. An offering will be received and canned goods will be collected as well. The offering will help the Lincoln County Ministerial Association meet benevolent needs in our community and the canned goods will go to the food pantry. Classic Re-Runs Classic Re-Runs is a non profit clothes shop specializing in good quality, lightly worn clothes for all sizes. They also have household items, dishes, and what-knots. All money is used exclusively for people with a medical emergency in Lincoln County. Donations are tax deductible. Classic Re-Runs is located at 108 Main Street, next door to China One. CCLC to meet The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 16 at the Lincoln County Library. The guest speaker will be Chairman, Walker T. Norman. Come and be a part of the concerned citizens of Lincoln County. Food Pantry hours The Lincoln County Food Pantry will be open during its regular hours of 9 a.m. until 12 noon on November 20. Due to Thanksgiving falling on November 23, the pantry will be closed. Singing at Purvis A gospel singing featuring the Adoration Quartet and fish fry will be held at Purvis School House on Sat., Nov. 18 from 5 - 7 p.m. Plates cost $7.50. You may dine in or take out. Ladies Bible study Lincolnton Baptist Church will host a ladies Bible study entitled, "Lord, I Want to Know You" by Kay Arthur. The Study will be held in the conference room on Tuesdays from 7 - 9 p.m. or Thursdays from 9 - 11 a.m. This is a 16 week study and although it has already begun, it's not too late to join in. The cost is $15 per book. Womens program Tabernacle Womens Ministry invites the public to its annual Womens Ministry Program at 2 p.m., November 19 at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Minister Cathy Jones and Freedom Church will be in charge of this special occasion. LCMS pageant The Lincoln County Middle School Pageant will be held Thurs., Nov. 30. Deadline to enter is Nov. 21 with an entry fee of $35. Late entries may be made no later than 3 p.m. on Mon., Nov. 27 with a $45 fee. Entry forms have been given to every girl in the middle school, if you need another one, you may pick it up at the LCMS office. Christmas Child Morningside Baptist Church will be a drop off point for Operation Christmas Child which uses the power of a simple gift to share a sense of hope with suffering children. Everyone is asked to fill one or more shoe boxes with gifts and drop them off at Morningside the week of Nov. 13 - 20. Choir anniversary First Baptist Church Gospel Choir will celebrate its anniversary on Nov. 19 at 2:30 p.m. All area churches and the public is welcome. Bids wanted The Lincoln County High School Cheerleaders are requesting bids for providing a 50'x70'x20' steel frame metal practice building. Fund set up for Myers A fund has been established at Farmers State Bank to help Ray Myers with medical expenses. Christmas in Harlem The City of Harlem will hold its 4th Annual Christmas in the Heart of Downtown Harlem on Sat., Dec. 9. The day will begin with breakfast with Santa, reservations must be made by Nov. 28 as seating is limited. Thanksgiving service Nov. 19 To get into the true spirit of the holiday season, area churches will join together in worship at the annual Community Thanksgiving Service set for Sunday, November 19, at 7 p.m. at Lincolnton United Methodist Church. The event is being sponsored by the Lincoln County Ministerial Association. Rev. Lanis Lewis, co-pastor of First Assembly of God, will bring the message, with special music presented by Marcene Powell, organist; Jean Gale, pianist; vocalist Renee Hall, minister of music at Lincolnton Baptist Church; and a community choir, under the director of Rev. Terry Bonds, copastor of First Assembly of God. Everyone is invited to come and sing in the community choir. Practice will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary the day of the worship service. The offering collected during the service will be used for charitable works in the community including helping the needy in the county with utilities, rent, lodging, and food. In addition to the love offering, the ministerial association will likewise be collecting canned food for the Lincoln County Food Pantry. All members of the community are encouraged to attend this special worship service to thank God both individually and corporately for His many blessings. Refreshments will be served in the church fellowship hall immediately following the program. Living history perform. The Robert Toombs House State Historic Sites' living history performers will present a delightful Christmas experience on Sat., Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. As part of the Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites' 75th anniversary celebration, "Santa and his elves" will bring to life seventy-five years of Christmas music by bringing the lyrics to life.
