The Middle School Girls basketball team opened their season at Washington Wilkes last Wednesday.
The girls fought hard from start to finish, but came up short, 5 points to the home team.
This is the first year for most of the young Lady Devils.
The game was close from the start as Montana Dawkins led the way with 6 points in the 1st quarter. The 1st quarter score was 6 to 5.
The Lady Devils pressed their way to a halftime score of 8 to 10. The 2nd quarter was the lowest scoring quarter of the game for Lincoln and allowed the Lady Tigers to stay in the game.
They only scored 2 points in the quarter while Washington-Wilkes scored 5.
Burshaunda Wade led the way on the boards with some key rebounds as Lincoln made a run in the 4th quarter and tied up the game.
Taylor Fernandez drove strong to the basket to cut the lead to 3 points. The
press secured 3 to 4 more turnovers but the shots just would not fall for the Lady Devils as they fell by the final score of 23-18.
Coach Hilton had this to say about the game. "First of all I have to thank my Lord and Savior for the opportunity to coach these young ladies. They are a hardworking group and we are blessed to have them. They played extremely hard and I am very proud of them. Montana did a great job of handling the ball for us and Taylor attacked the bucket. Perkita Walton and Burshaunda Wade did a great job of rebounding. We need to make some shots and we will be okay. The press looked good in spots also."
Taylor Fernandez and Montana Dawkins led the way with 6 points each. Perkita Walton chipped in with 4, while Tiara Wynn had 2. Their next game will be Wednesday, November 8, at home against Washington Wilkes.
