      Every year at Christmas I end up decorating the house with less enthusiasm than the last. I haven't figured out exactly why that is but I think it may have something to do with the fact that I'm older, tired, worn out. Or maybe I just don't see the point.

Holiday mailing deadlines
      The United States Postal Service has advised that December 11, 2006, is the international mailing deadline for First Class Mail to ensure delivery of holiday cards and packages by December 25, 2006, for most military APO/FPO addresses to troops overseas. Any mail going to zip codes beginning with 093 have a December 4, 2006 deadline. These mailing dates can be accessed online at www.usps.

Tired of restrictions and high taxes
      TO THE EDITOR We have read, and totally agree, with the letter to the editor written by Pamela Partridge Jordan that appeared in the November 23 The Lincoln Journal. She is repeating what we ourselves said in a letter in October. The obvious intent of the elected officials in Lincoln County is to have the county become a part-time home to newcomers with money.

Thank you to historical society
      TO THE EDITOR A heartfelt "thank you" to the historical society and everyone who had a part in Pioneer Day. We appreciate the nostalgia of seeing our heritage in action. It is a re- minder for us to be truly thankful for the modern conveniences we enjoy today and to appreciate the hard work, endurance and creativity of our ancestors.
