TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/50.

ACS offers RtoR prog.

The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home.

59 MET at MBC

Morningside Baptist Church will host a 59 Minutes of Evangelism Training (59 MET)Session on Tues., Nov. 28 at 7 p.m.

59 MET was developed by the Georgia Baptist Convention to help churches train and encourage every member to be soul-winners for Jesus Christ. Training sessions last 59 minutes and involve biblical teaching, sharing personal testimony, keeping a prayer list and proven strategies on leading people to Jesus.

Help with heat

The Energy Assistance Program began taking applications Wed., Nov. 1 for homebound and elderly 65 years and older households to pay their home heating costs. If funds are available, it will be opened to the general public Fri., Dec. 1.

Applications for Lincoln County will be taken at The Lincoln Center, 160 May Ave., Nov. 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. only. If you cannot make these dates, you must apply at one of their local locations. For more information, please call 1-866-722-4346.

Toy Run Dec. 9

Lincoln Iron Horse will hold its annual Toy Run on Saturday, December 9 beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Everyone will meet at the American Legion Post 194, a short ride will leave the Post at 10:30 and travel to the DFACS office.

Unwrapped toy donations may be dropped off at the Post between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. A truck and trailer will be there for larger toys.

Toys will benefit the Lincoln County Department of Family and Children Services. Please help make this a special Christmas for the needy children.

Classic Re-Runs

Classic Re-Runs is a non profit clothes shop specializing in good quality, lightly worn clothes for all sizes. They also have household items, dishes, and what-knots. All money is used exclusively for people with a medical emergency in Lincoln County. Donations are tax deductible.

Classic Re-Runs is located at 108 Main Street, next door to China One. Stop by to check out their half-price sales and specials that change weekly.

Pastors anniversary

The 21st Pastoral Anniversary of Rev. Willie J. White will be held at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church on Sun., Dec. 3 at 11:15 a.m. Rev. Jesse Johnson, pastor of Rehoboth Baptist Church will be guest minister. Everyone is invited.

Youth Leadership Lincoln applications are now available for local area high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Applications may be pickedup from the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce and Development Authority office, Lincoln County Family Connection office, or the Lincoln County High School Counselor's office. Youth Leadership Lincoln is a 4-month program that will begin in January. Applications are due by Mon., Dec. 11, 2006. For more information call 706- 359-7970 or 706-359-5769.

Turkey shoot

The Sons of American Legion Squadron 194 will have a turkey shoot Nov. 25, 7 - 10 p.m. at the American Legion Fairgrounds.

Living history perform.

The Robert Toombs House State Historic Sites' living history performers will present a delightful Christmas experience on Sat., Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

As part of the Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites' 75th anniversary celebration, "Santa and his elves" will bring to life seventy-five years of Christmas music by bringing the lyrics to life. Admission is free. Contact Ashley or Marcia for more information at 706-678-2226.

Candlelight service

Harmony Baptist Church Missionary Ministry will be hosting its annual "Missionary Candlelight Service" on Sun., Dec. 17, at 5 p.m. Rev. Robert Crawford and Mt. Choir anniversary

Harmony Baptist Church Choir will be celebrating its third anniversary on Sun., Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. All are invited and welcomed to come help us lift up the name of Jesus! Rev. Freddie Neal, Sr. is pastor.

Program at FBC

First Baptist Church of Lincolnton will have a Youth on the Move program on Sun., Nov. 26 at 3 p.m.

Guest speaker will be Eugene Millidge. Rev. Dennis Quinn is pastor. All area churches and youth are invited.

Bids wanted

The Lincoln County High School Cheerleaders are requesting bids for providing a 50'x70'x20' steel frame metal practice building.

If interested, please contact Andy Wengrow at 706-401-9597 for bid specifications. Sealed bids will be opened on Dec. 1, 10 a.m. at the Lincoln County Board of Education Office. Bids must be received by Nov. 30.

Road closings

North Peachtree Street and Main Street will close Sat., Dec. 2, 2006 at 12 noon until 6 p.m. to parking and drive through traffic for the 9th Annual Holidays In Olde Lincoln Towne Festival and Holiday Parade at 3 p.m.

Shoppers are encouraged to park at the designated festival parking locations and walk through town to enjoy the celebration. Designated festival parking locations are the following businesses: the Lincoln Center, Wilkes Telephone Office, Lincoln County High School and Middle School, Commercial Insurance Services, Lincoln County Courthouse, Lincolnton United Methodist Church, State Farm Insurance, Clark Hill Rentals, Maxway, Dr. Griffin's Office, Farmers State Bank, Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, Powell & Associates, Lincoln County Farm Bureau, Lincolnton Presbyterian Church, and handicap parking is located at the Lincoln County Health Department.

Bell's Grocery shoppers are asked to use Dallas Street and enter the Ward Avenue parking lot entrance.

The Chamber of Commerce is very appreciative of the community's support for this annual event and we sincerely hope the day is enjoyable to all.

LCMS pageant

The Lincoln County Middle School Pageant will be held Thurs., Nov. 30. Deadline to enter is Nov. 21 with an entry fee of $35. Late entries may be made no later than 3 p.m. on Mon., Nov. 27 with a $45 fee. Entry forms have been given to every girl in the middle school, if you need another one, you may pick it up at the LCMS office.

Christmas Child

Morningside Baptist Church will be a drop off point for Operation Christmas Child which uses the power of a simple gift to share a sense of hope with suffering children.

Everyone is asked to fill one or more shoe boxes with gifts and drop them off at Morningside the week of Nov. 13 - 20. The Lincolnton Police Department is conducting a survey online at www.cityoflincolnton.com concerning facial hair on officers. The public is invited to express your views on this matter.

Mobile mammography

The University Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department on Nov. 28.

Screening mammograms for women age 40 and above are usually covered by private insurance and Medicare. Call the health department for more information.

Festival Off Main

The 4th Annual Thomson Festival Off Main will be held Sat., Dec. 2. Applications for crafters, vendors, 5- K runners and parade participants are available from the chamber of commerce by calling 706-597-1000 or Johnette Bell at the Brier Patch at 706-595-3087.

Zoning meetings

The Lincoln County Planning & Zoning Board meetings for 2006 are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on the following dates in the Commis-sioner's Conference Room on the first floor of the Lincoln County Courthouse: and Mon., Dec. 4.

China banquet

Woodlawn United Methodist Church, Augusta, will hold its 6th Annual Christmas China Banquet on Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $30 per couple. All previous table captains need to contact Cathy Boyles at 706- 863-5259 to check in and/or to purchase tickets for the banquet.

Fund set up for Myers

A fund has been established at Farmers State Bank to help Ray Myers with medical expenses. Ray has recently been diagnosed with cancer and has a long and expensive road ahead of him. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Vendors wanted

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will host their 9th Annual Holidays In Olde Lincoln Towne Festival and Holiday Parade on Sat., Dec. 2, 2006 12:00 - 6:00 p.m. downtown Lincolnton with the holiday parade beginning at 3 p.m.

The chamber is seeking area vendors, parade entries, entertainment, and more. If you would like more information contact Ginger Parham at 706-359-7970 Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Christmas prog.

Woodlawn United Methodist Church, Augusta, will hold its children's Christmas program Wed., Dec. 13 after the church supper in the church social hall. Everyone is invited as this will be a special treat. For more information, please call the church office at 706-738-2546.

Christmas in Harlem

The City of Harlem will hold its 4th Annual Christmas in the Heart of Downtown Harlem on Sat., Dec. 9. The day will begin with breakfast with Santa, reservations must be made by Nov. 28 as seating is limited.

GED/Adult classes

Flu vaccines

The Lincoln County Health Department is expecting an arrival of flu vaccine Nov. 27. The public is advised to call the health dept. at 706-359- 3154 to confirm availability.
