iParent allows students access to progress reports via Internet
Students in Lincoln County can now access their grades, homework assignments, and other information on-line through the iParent Program. Pictured at the computer are Lynnice Beard, a ninth-grader at LCHS; Principal Becky Barden; and Cindy Cartledge, Student Information Systems coordinator for Lincoln County. Lincoln County students may now view their progress reports and other information via the Internet, using the iParent Program.
For the past two years, the fully web and browser-based program has provided parental access to information contained in SchoolMAX, the county's web-based, real-time student information management system used by administrators and teachers. Basically, the iParent module gives parents access to their child's grades, attendance records, homework assignments, disciplinary records, and other information.
A single password and log-in, issued by the district's central office on Metasville Road, allows parents to access information on all family members who are students, no matter which school they attend. An elaborate security system controls the process.
"It looks like iParent is really starting to catch on," said Cindy Cartledge, SIS (Student Information Systems) coordinator for the school district. "A lot of parents are utilizing the program this year. iParent has proved to be an efficient communication tool for parents and the school system. Now, we want to offer the program to students as well."
According to Dr. Becky Barden, LCHS principal, "Giving students access to iParent will allow them to keep up with their own grades - this way, their grades won't come as a surprise at the end of the semester. The program will also help them to keep better track of homework assignments in each class and any make-up work they need to do."
Teachers are required to post grades weekly. All other information is available on a daily basis.
Students in grades 1-12 who wish to view their grades, homework assignments, and other information online using iParent may obtain an access key from their school's guidance counselor. They will be allowed to access their information only; they will not be able to see other students' grades and so forth.
