Watson-Brown Foundation awards $30,000 in college scholarshipsto Lincoln County students

As college classes begin for the fall semester, 10 students from Lincoln County received a boost in financial assistance. Watson-Brown Foundation, Inc., awarded nearly $1.4 million in college scholarships to over 400 students in Georgia and South Carolina for the 2006-2007 academic year. $30,000 was committed to students from Lincoln County.

New recipients from Lincoln County were: James Michael Campbell, Lacey DeAnne Crook, Clayton Hunt Dent, and Amy Denard McGee.

Renewal recipients from Lincoln County were: Anna Elizabeth Campbell, Amie Nicole Crump, Christopher Allen Edwards, David A. Price, LeAnn Walton, and Catherine Chelsey Willis.

"The academic prowess of this year's recipients far exceeded the expectations of our scholarship committee," said Sarah Katherine McNeil, Director of Scholarships and Alumni Relations for Watson-Brown. "We will continue to support the educational endeavors of students from Lincoln County."

Watson-Brown Foundation Scholars attend a wide variety of colleges and universities across the nation. The top five institutions represented are the University of Georgia, Furman University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Augusta State University, and Wofford College. Scholarship recipients attend 90 other institutions including Rice University, Duke University, Harvard, Mercer University, Agnes Scott College, University of Pennsylvania, and Vanderbilt University among others.

Based on merit and need, WatsonBrown Foundation, Inc. awards individual annual scholarships of $3000 and $5000. Scholarships are renewable each year based on continued academic success.

Undergraduate students from Georgia and South Carolina may be considered for the scholarship; however, priority is given to applicants from the CSRA. Scholarship applications will be available online at www.watsonbrown. org by October 1. The deadline for the 2007-2008 academic year is February 15, 2007.

Watson-Brown Foundation, Inc. was established in 1970 by the late Walter J. Brown primarily as a college scholarship program. WatsonBrown is among Georgia's largest private foundations, with annual giving totaling more than $6 million. In addition to its scholarship program, the Watson-Brown Foundation also operates three historic sites and house museums and maintains a grant program that funds historic preservation and programs in the humanities.
