Chamber Chatter

Committee meets for planning of festival
By: Ginger Parham, Administrator

Can you hear the sound of holiday bells? Can you smell the scent of cinnamon, pumpkin, and cedar? If you can, then, like us here at the chamber of commerce, you are preparing for the most festive time of year the holidays.

Thanksgiving and Christmas is a wonderful time here in Lincolnton and it brings out our community's most talented as well as our most generous people. The Holidays in Olde Lincoln Towne Festival is unique to our community, providing an optimum visitor and tourist destination celebration. This year's event will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2006 from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m. in downtown Lincolnton with the event's parade at 3:00 p.m.

The chamber of commerce takes pride in its biggest festival of the year because it gives us the opportunity to showcase the people that make Lincolnton what it is...and what newcomers from all over are discovering us to be...friendly, warm, and generous with plenty to share.

With this in mind, we invite you to take an active role in the 9th Annual Holidays in Olde Lincoln Towne Festival and Holiday Parade. Fresh ideas, enthusiasm, creativity, and energy are needed to make Lincolnton's holiday celebration successful. No one will be refused an opportunity to serve on the 2006 committee. Join us tonight, Thursday, August 31, 7:00 p.m. at the Welcome Center.

Consider the following areas of work and how you could best use your time and talents: holiday parade, street vendors, entertainment, merchant participation, non-profit participation, school participation, children's games and rides, the city and county government's participation, and new ideas never tried before or "let's try this again" ideas.

We want as much community involvement as possible. Without local involvement in the festival, we must look to outside vendors and individuals. So, please keep this in mind as you debate what role you would like to take in holidays. The more volunteers and participants, the less one person has to do, and the more fun the festival will be!
