Burn gets out of control

A controlled burn conducted by Roy Woods on the McCormick Highway got a little out of control on Friday, August 11. According to Bob O'Neill, a firefighter with Martin's Crossroads VFD, "Mr. Woods had a permit and had set a good fire break. However, due to the wind and dry conditions, the fire jumped onto another pile of lumber, into the woods, and across the highway. It was a volatile fire scene." In addition to Martin's Crossroads VFD, other agencies responding to the scene were the Lincoln County Fire and Rescue Unit and the Georgia Forestry Unit.
