TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/50.

Tax Assessors meetings

The Lincoln County Board of Tax Assessors regular meetings for 2006 will be: Jan. 17; Feb. 21; March 21; April 18; May 16; June 20; July 18; Aug. 15; Sept. 19; Oct. 17; Nov. 21; and Dec. 19.

The meetings will start at 4 p.m. in the Lincoln County Courtroom.

ACS offers RtoR prog.

The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home.

The Concerned Citizens of Lincoln County (CCLC), will meet at the Lincoln County Public Library on Thurs., June 15 at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Meg Burg, director of planning and zoning. Come and be a part of CCLC.

Programs at park

Elijah Clark State Park will offer several programs this summer to give families economical outings for the whole family. Every weekend Living History: Pioneer Campfire Cooking will be demonstrated at the log cabin museum with Mike Durrett cooking up a pioneer treat.

A Living History: Spinning and Weaving Demonstration will be held at the park June 17 and July 1 beginning at 10 a.m. in the log cabin museum. On each of these days Lucy Nel will demonstrate spinning and weaving as pioneer women did over 200 years ago.

These programs are free with your $3 park pass admission.

Church anniversary

Prices Grove Baptist Church will hold its 89th church anniversary on Sun., June 18 at 2 p.m. Guest speaker will be Rev. Jack Stokes. Second Shiloh will be in charge of the service. Rev. Jackson Parks is pastor. Everyone is invited.

Plate sale Fri.

A chicken or fish plate sale will be held Fri., June 16 from 11 a.m. 6 p.m. at the home of George and Lula Beard. Plates will cost $6 each. All proceeds will go to the Elam family reunion. Please call 706-359-6531 for more information.

Benefit plate sale

The American Legion Family, Post 194 is having a barbecue chicken plate benefit for the Kathie Davis family on June 17 at the American Legion Post Home, 1121 American Legion Rd.

Plates will be $6.00 and can be picked up from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will be cooking.

Loco Baptist Church will hold vacation bible school June 11 16 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Plan on joining our Fiesta!...Where kids are fired up about Jesus.

Donations needed

Financial and/or material donations are needed for the River of Life, to be held July 19 23. This will be the 16th year Lincolnton United Methodist Church has hosted this event.

Approximately 120 youth and adult volunteers from different churches from all over the state will come to our area and do minor repairs and painting on homes at no charge so they depend on registration fees paid by the volunteers and donations from the public. All donations are tax deductible.

Holiday closing

The Lincoln County Health Department will be closed Mon. and Tues., July 3 4, for state holidays. The staff will be working extended hours July 24 29, 2006.

VBS at Martin's CCHC

Vacation Bible School will be held at Martin's Crossroads CH Church June 19 23 from 7 9 p.m. nightly for children Pre-K through sixth grade.

They will explore Son Treasure Island and find treasure more precious than gold. F&F Day at Ebenezer

Beginning May 31, 2006 at 7:30 8:30 a.m. each week, Mon. Thurs., at Lincoln County Elementary School and at Lincoln County High School, a child 18 years old and under can receive a free breakfast in the school cafeteria. This will continue through June 29.

At 11:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. each week, Mon. Thurs., a child 18 years old and under can receive a free lunch at the elementary and high school cafeterias. This will continue through June 29.

Any adult accompanying a child or children can receive a breakfast for $1.00 and a lunch for $1.50.

Men's Conference

The 2006 Men's Conference will be held at First Baptist Church June 20 22 beginning at 7:30 p.m. nightly.

Guest speakers will be: Tues. Rev. Willie J. White of Newberry Baptist Church, Lincolnton; Wed. Rev. Jesse W. Johnson, Jr. of Rehoboth Baptist Church, Appling; and Thurs. Rev. Matthew Harden of New Tabernacle Baptist Church, Lincolnton.

Parts available

Parts are still available and volunteers are needed for the outdoor drama based on the life of Elijah Clark to be presented July 8, 2006 in connection with the annual Thunder Over Thurmond Fireworks Show and the Seventy-fifth anniversary of the Georgia Parks Division.

According to one of organizers, a number of people have signed up to help with the program but cast members are still needed. "We've had a lot of interest in the drama and we're working to finalize the cast so rehearsals can begin," said Bill Bufford. "Volunteers are needed for onstage parts as well as production staff," Bufford added.

Sign installation

The Georgia Department of Transportation will install signs at the crossroads of New Petersburg Road and Hwy. 378 designating the area as Wright's Crossing on Tues., June 27.

The Mildred Estes Fortson Heritage Foundation invites the community to the dedication ceremony which will be held at the Wright House at 11 a.m. that morning.

All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they may be eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare.
