Willis to perform at Smyrna

Rev. Kathy Lamon and the congregation of Smyrna United Methodist Church invite the community to hear a concert performed by Mrs. Saundra Powell Willis of Columbia, SC on June 18th at 6 p.m. Saundra has a beautiful and distinctive voice and a real passion for sharing God's love with all around her.

Born in the small farming town of Pamplico, South Carolina, Saundra Powell Willis lived in South Carolina with her parents until the age of three. Saundra's father a steel construction engineer moved their family to the island of Aruba in the Netherland Antilles. Thus began years of traveling throughout the Caribbean, Netherland Antilles and West Indies for Saundra and her family.

Saundra's mother, Annette always made sure that no matter where they were living, it was as much "like home" as she could make it. Her father, Harry always made sure that there was plenty of music around their house. He consistently had a country and western band that played local parties and events, and Saundra started performing with him at the ripe old age of four. It was a bond that remained between the two of them until her father passed away in 1995.

Saundra continued to sing in church and local functions until 1994 when she recorded her first country project entitled "I'll Believe it When I Feel It". The project, while never gaining national attention, did very well on a local level.

Traveling many years with the National Rodeo Circuit, Saundra enjoyed performing all over the United States. She sang with a country band based in Augusta, Georgia until she retired from music full time in 2002.

Saundra now travels throughout North and South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and Florida delighting audiences with her humorous and touching testimony. In 2005, she recorded her first southern gospel CD entitled, "Somebody's Praying" which has been well received by audiences throughout the southeast.

Saundra and her husband Elliott make their home in Columbia, South Carolina.

Smyrna UMC is located three miles east of Washington on the Lincolnton Highway. A love offering will be received at the performance. CDs will also be available for purchase before and after the concert.
