VBS at St. Luke

St. Luke Baptist Church will have Vacation Bible School June 5 through June 9 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Youth Day will be June 11. Everyone is invited. TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/50.

For the month of April, all items are .50 each except for coats, boots and furniture.

Tax Assessors meetings

The Lincoln County Board of Tax Assessors regular meetings for 2006 will be: Jan. 17; Feb. 21; March 21; April 18; May 16; June 20; July 18; Aug. 15; Sept. 19; Oct. 17; Nov. 21; and Dec. 19.

The meetings will start at 4 p.m. in the Lincoln County Courtroom.

ACS offers RtoR prog.

The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home.

Children of all ages are invited to an Artic Expedition at Rehoboth Baptist Church at 3219 Metasville Rd. The journey begins with a block party June 10 starting at 2 p.m. There will be food, fun, games, clowns, and door prizes.

Vacation Bible School will be held June 11 - 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. Young people will not want to miss the journey to the Arctic Edge: "Where adventure meets courage." Call Nan Snell at 706-678-2125 if you have any questions.

Fishing tournament

A fishing tournament will be held Sat., June 10 at the Cox Farm for boys and girls up to age 16. Children eight and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 12 noon. Prizes will be awarded and lunch will be served following the event. For more information or directions, please call Leon Cox at 706-359-3053.

Mobile unit here

The University Hospital Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Lincoln County Health Department on the following dates: June 5 and June 23.

Parts available

Parts are still available and volunteers are needed for the outdoor drama based on the life of Elijah Clark to be presented July 8, 2006 in connection with the annual Thunder Over Thurmond Fireworks Show and the Seventy-fifth anniversary of the Georgia Parks Division.

According to one of organizers, a number of people have signed up to help with the program but cast members are still needed. "We've had a lot of interest in the drama and we're working to finalize the cast so rehearsals can begin," said Bill Bufford. "Volunteers are needed for on-stage parts as well as production staff," Bufford added.

Youth Baseball Camp for upcoming grades 3-8 will be held Wednesday, May 31 through Friday, June 2 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon at the Lincoln County Recreation fields. Cost is $30 for the three days. Contact Coach Glen Matthews for information at 706-359-3708.

Benefit plate sale

The American Legion Family, Post 194 is having a barbecue chicken plate benefit for the Kathie Davis family on June 17 at the American Legion Post Home, 1121 American Legion Rd.

Plates will be $6.00 and can be picked up from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will be cooking.

Choir anniversary

Pageant slated for June 3

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Little Mr. & Miss Pageant on Sat., June 3, 2006, 7 p.m. in the Lincoln County High School Auditorium. Applicants must be between the ages of 4-6, but not in the first grade and must be a full time resident of Lincoln County.

Entry fee is $30 at the time application is submitted. Deadline to enter is Mon., May 15, at 5 p.m. Applications can be picked up at the chamber office. For more information, please call 706-359-7970.

Programs at park

Elijah Clark State Park will offer several programs this summer to provide economical outings for the whole family.

Every weekend Living History: Pioneer Campfire Cooking will be demonstrated at the log cabin museum with Mike Durrett cooking up a pioneer treat.

Decorating with Nature program will be held at the Assembly Shelter beginning at 11 a.m., on Saturday, June 10. You will learn to decorate your home at little or no cost using gifts from Mother Nature. Class size is limited so you must call 706-3593458 before Wed., June 7 to register. These programs are free with your $3 park pass.

Family, friends day

The stewardess of Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church will sponsor Family and Friends Day Sun., June 18 at 2 p.m. Guest speaker will be Evangelist Lena P. Lewis of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Grovetown, Ga. Everyone is invited. Rev. Walter Clayton is pastor.

The Lincoln County Planning & Zoning Board meetings for 2006 are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on the following dates in the Commis-sioner's Conference Room on the first floor of the Lincoln County Courthouse: Mon., Jan. 9; Mon., Feb. 6; Mon., March 6; Mon., April 10; Mon., May 8; Mon. Free breakfast, lunch

Beginning May 31, 2006 at 7:30 8:30 a.m. each week, Mon. Thurs., at Lincoln County Elementary School and at Lincoln County High School, a child 18 years old and under can receive a free breakfast in the school cafeteria. This will continue through June 29.

At 11:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. each week, Mon. Thurs., a child 18 years old and under can receive a free lunch at the elementary and high school cafeterias. This will continue through June 29.

Any adult accompanying a child or children can receive a breakfast for $1.00 and a lunch for $1.50.

Breakfast buffet

First Saturday Breakfast Buffet All You Can Eat will be held Sat., June 3 from 7 10 a.m. at Faith Temple. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 11 and under.

Family meeting There will be a meeting at the home of Gyp and Margaret Hearst on June 3 at 6 p.m. for the Hearst family members.

Youth Camp

Faith Temple will host its annual Youth Camp "Deal or No Deal" for ages 11 19 beginning Mon., June 5 through June 10.

VBS at Hephzibah

Vacation Bible School will be held at Hephzibah Baptist Church Mon. Fri., June 5 9, at 6:30 9:00 p.m. for classes ages two through twelve. This year's theme is "Arctic Edge: Where Adventure Meets Courage."

All area children are invited to come and join the trek north to the Arctic edge. Commencement will be held on Sun., June 11 at 7 p.m. There will be an ice cream fellowship following the commencement service.

Hephzibah Baptist Church is located off the Washington Highway, one mile from the Wilkes County line.

Electric wheelchairs

All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they may be eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare.

Enrichment class

Faith Tabernacle Church will present a community Spiritual Enrichment Class at the fuel dock #1 located in the yard of Roy Hunter Trucking, Inc., 2425 Leathersville Rd., every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
