Athletes recognized at awards ceremony May 11

DARELL NORMAN AND MAKIAH HAWES MVP - Track DARELL NORMAN AND MAKIAH HAWES MVP - Track It was standing-room only at the Spring Athletic Awards Ceremony held Thursday, May 11, in the LCHS Cafeteria.

The event was sponsored by the Lincoln County Athletic Booster Club in conjunction with the LCHS Athletic Department.

Guests were welcomed to the awards ceremony by Larry Campbell, athletic director and head football coach at LCHS.

The rest of the evening was then devoted to the introduction of the various teams by their coaches and the presentation of awards. Those receiving recognition were:

Varsity Basketball

Most Valuable Player: Jatheus Jones and Coppetta Elam.

Most Improved Player: Ricardo Norman, Latoya Harris, and Jessica Wynn.

Best Defensive Player: Darell Norman.

Best Offensive Player: Jatheus Jones.

Leadership Award: Shawntavius Jennings and Crystal Moore.

Team Captain: Shawntavius Jennings and Shay Norman.

Senior Award: Alfredia Henderson.

Spark Award: Darrien West, Jeffery Porter, Kiece Crite, Tamika Mickens, Crystal Moore, Amanda Gunby, and Latoya Harris.

Most Valuable Player: Tony Wells, Dechane Willis, and Sayah Cummings.

Most Improved Player: Jeree Dukes. Coach's Award: Symone Sherman.

Soccer

Most Valuable Player: Andrew Spens and Danielle Brady.

Coach's Award: Brandon Sparks and Katie Patterson.

Varsity Baseball

Most Valuable Player: Brandon Barden. Team Captain: Austin Reed. Best Defensive Player: Trey Bailey.

Best Offensive Player: Tyler Beale.

Coach's Award for Dependability: Casey Norman.

Coach's Award for Base Running: Alex Bradford.

Coach's Award for Hustle: Kiece Crite.

Because the season was still underway at the time of the recognition ceremony, these awards were presented at a later date.

Junior Varsity Baseball

Most Valuable Player: Daniel McAlister.

Most Improved Player: Chase Bandy and Stacy McClendon.

Most Valuable Player: Charles Bailey, Ryan King, and Kitty Ball.

Golf

Most Valuable Player: James Williams.

Most Improved Player: Marcus Ferguson.

Junior Varsity Cheerleading

Most Valuable Cheerleader: Raphael Albea.

Most Improved Cheerleader: BreAnna Banks.

Most Spirited Cheerleader: Lena Turner.

Scholar-Athlete Award: Jaeda Bennett, Kelli McWhorter, Cassie Smith, Jamie Campbell, Cheryl Gracey, Jason Janssen, Chase Colvin, and Kellen O'Neill.

Also during the ceremony, Assistant Football Coach Mark Flowers, who will begin teaching at Evans High School next fall, was presented with a gift to remind him of his years at LCHS.
