VBS at St. Luke

St. Luke Baptist Church will have Vacation Bible School June 5 through June 9 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Youth Day will be June 11. Everyone is invited.

TIA Helping Hand

The original Clothes Closet, located on Firetower Rd., has reopened, now as T.I.A. Community Helping Hand. All proceeds will go toward the Lincoln County Food Pantry and emergency needs of the community, 50/50.

For the month of April, all items are .50 each except for coats, boots and furniture. Tax Assessors meetings

The Lincoln County Board of Tax Assessors regular meetings for 2006 will be: Jan. 17; Feb. 21; March 21; April 18; May 16; June 20; July 18; Aug. 15; Sept. 19; Oct. 17; Nov. 21; and Dec. 19.

The meetings will start at 4 p.m. in the Lincoln County Courtroom.

ACS offers RtoR prog.

The American Cancer Society now offers its Road to Recovery program to cancer patients in Lincoln County who need transportation to and from their treatments, free of charge. Drivers are trained society volunteers who pick up patients at their homes, take them to their treatment and drive them back home.

Memorial Day observance

Memorial Day observance will be conducted by American Legion Post 194 and the Lincoln County Government at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day, May 29, 2006.

The speaker will be State Senator Jim Whitehead. A special presentation will be given to the family of James Kinlow, who lost his life in Iraq. Bob Pollard, state commander of the American Legion, will preside over the program.

Refreshments will be served after the service is over.

Baseball camp

Youth Baseball Camp for upcoming grades 3-8 will be held Wednesday, May 31 through Friday, June 2 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon at the Lincoln County Recreation fields. Cost is $30 for the three days. Contact Coach Glen Matthews for information at 706-359-3708.

The American Legion Family, Post 194 is having a barbecue chicken plate benefit for the Kathie Davis family on June 17 at the American Legion Post Home, 1121 American Legion Rd.

Plates will be $6.00 and can be picked up from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will be cooking.

Pageant slated for June 3

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Little Mr. & Miss Pageant on Sat., June 3, 2006, 7 p.m. in the Lincoln County High School Auditorium. Applicants must be between the ages of 4-6, but not in the first grade and must be a full time resident of Lincoln County.

Entry fee is $30 at the time application is submitted. Deadline to enter is Mon., May 15, at 5 p.m. Applications can be picked up at the chamber office. For more information, please call 706-359-7970.

In observance of Memorial Day, the Department of Driver Services' (DDS) individual statewide driver's testing and licensing centers will be closed Saturday, May 27th and will reopen on Tuesday, May 30th.

Bag sale at Classic ReRuns

Classic ReRuns, located at 108 Main St., Lincolnton, is open to everyone. There will be a "bag" sale during the month of May. All adult items you can get into a brown paper bag for $5 and likewise with children's clothes in a plastic bag for $3.

New hours of operation are Thurs., and Fri. 10 a.m. 5 p.m. and Sat., 10 a.m. 2 p.m.

State rally May 28

Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church will have a state rally on Sun., May 28 at 3 p.m. Rev. Nathan Jones, pastor of Woodlawn C.M.E. Church of Harlem, Ga., and his congregation, will be in charge of the service.

Parts available

Parts or still available and volunteers are needed for the outdoor drama based on the life of Elijah Clark to be presented July 8, 2006 in connection with the annual Thunder Over Thurmond Fireworks Show and the Seventy-Fifth Anniversary of the Georgia Parks Division.

According to one of organizers a number of people have signed up to help with the program but cast members are still needed. "We've had a lot of interest in the drama and we're working to finalize the cast so rehearsals can begin," said Bill Bufford. Volunteers are needed for onstage parts as well as production staff Bufford added.

Discipleship classes Discipleship classes are being held at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church each week. Section one "The Disciple's Cross" was completed on May 17. A fellowship meal followed.

Girl Scouts, Central Savannah River Council will once again host overnight and day camp opportunities for girls ages 5-17 at Camp Tanglewood in Columbia County. Week-long and mini programs will feature games, swimming, horseback riding, nature hikes, camp songs, arts & crafts, plus a variety of specialized programs including: equestrian programs, canoeing, adventure camps, swimming and archery.

Electric wheelchairs

All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they may be eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare.
