Q: I recently saw a roadside vendor selling Vidalia onions. Is he required to be licensed by the Department of Agriculture?
A: No. The Georgia Department of Agriculture does not issue temporary licenses. Roadside vendors are regulated by the county where they are located. It is possible that they will require a license such as a peddler's license. However, he is subject to random inspection by one of our inspectors to ensure that they are actually selling Vidalia onions.
Q: I am working on a scrapbook about Georgia. I would like to have answers to the following questions: Is there a Georgia Agriculture Day observed? If so when is it?
A: Yes, the Georgia Department of Agriculture celebrates Agriculture Day each year with an Ag Day essay and art contest as part of National Agriculture Week. The National Ag in the Classroom Council designates the dates for National Agriculture week in March and it is usually the third week of that month. The date that we have selected for 2007 will be Thursday, March 16 which will be the date of our Ag Day program.
Q: Can you tell me how to file for a farm tax exemption?

You may need to consult with the sales establishment for further assistance on filing the form. Additional information on agricultural tax exemptions can be found on the website of the Georgia Department of Revenue, Property Tax Division at www.2.state.ga.us/departments/ dor/salestax/stal.pdf. Or you may wish to contact them directly at 404-417-6626.
Q: How can I get the squirrels out of my attic?
A: Trapping is the most satisfactory way to eliminate squirrels. However, success in squirrel trapping depends largely on placement and setting of the trap. Complete information on controlling squirrels can be found on the website of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at www.forestry.uga.edu/warnell/ service/library. Or, if you will provide us with your complete mailing address, we will be happy to mail the document to you.
