County produces state's No. 1 angler and best team
Woody Parks of Lincolnton took first place at the Georgia Bass Chapter Federation's "Harry Hall Memorial Top Six Classic" held April 24 and 25 at Clark's Hill Lake.
Parks captured the state title with bass weighing a total of 31.30 pounds.
Over 500 anglers, representing 90 clubs from across the state, participated in the competition which was sponsored by Columbia County and the Greater Augusta Sports Council.
Mike Broome, also of Lincolnton, placed fourth in the tournament with bass weighing a total of 23.97 pounds
Both men will join the 12-man team which will represent the State of Georgia at the Southern Division tournament set for June 3-9 at Kentucky Lake, near Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. Seven states are scheduled to take part in the competition.
In his comments, Parks, who is now
considered the best angler in the state, expressed his appreciation to Jeremy and best team Dawkins and the employees of Soap Creek Marina for repairing his boat the first day of the tournament. "I couldn't have won without them."
Also at the Top Six Classic, the Savannah River Bass Club, of which Parks and Broome are members, was named the number-one bass club in the state. As a whole, the club caught 97.46 pounds of bass.
The other members of the winning club are David Dawkins, Jeff Bentley, and Ed Rice, all of Lincolnton, and David Matthews of Appling.
