Sheriff's office continues to investigate Smith
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office continues its investigation into an alleged case of stalking that occurred Sunday, April 23.
Michael David Smith, 41, of Oglethorpe (Macon County) was arrested and charged with one count each of stalking and harassing phone calls after the sheriff's office received information that a suspicious person was in a local convenience store trying to obtain information about an individual living in the county.
The subject was arrested in his vehicle, which was parked in direct view of the individual's house.
During the past week, search warrants were executed on two of Smith's vehicles and at his home in Oglethorpe. The evidence generated by the warrants has a direct bearing on the Lincoln County case, said Sheriff Gerald Lawson.
A full account of the investigation will appear in a subsequent issue of The Lincoln Journal.
Smith is currently being held without bond in the Lincoln County Law Enforcement Center.
