Ministerial association will host charity golf tournament
The Lincoln County Ministerial Association will sponsor a "FourMan Scramble Golf Tournament" on Saturday, May 13, at the Rocky Branch Golf Course.
The cost is $150 per team, with proceeds benefiting the Lincoln County Food Pantry and the ministerial association.
"There are many in this community who simply don't have the financial resources to buy all the food they need," said Rev. Dan Rosser, a member of the ministerial association and pastor of Lincolnton Baptist Church. "It is our responsibility to make sure our friends and neighbors have enough to eat. Every team that enters the golf tournament will help provide food for people who are hungry."
The food pantry depends heavily on churches and individuals for financial support, he continued. "While gifts of food are welcome, financial gifts actually go further because the food pantry staff can purchase the same amount of food with less money from agencies such as the Golden Harvest Food Bank in Augusta."
As for the ministerial association, this group helps meet financial needs in the community. "There are many times we are contacted throughout the year by people who need help with rent or utilities," said Rosser. "The only sources of income the ministerial association has are the offerings taken at the Holy Week services and the Community Thanksgiving Service.
As a result, we often don't have the resources to help people in need. We are hoping the proceeds from the golf tournament will enable us to better assist the less fortunate in our community."
Following the tournament, gift certificates will be awarded to the first and second-place teams. There will also be a prize for the player who gets closest to the hole on a par three and a prize for the longest drive. In addition, a drawing will be held for a wide variety of door prizes.
Furthermore, a barbecue lunch will be provided for those participating in the tournament. Coach Lee Chomskis of the LCHS Red Devils is set to speak to the group during the meal.
"I really want to encourage everyone to come out and support this event," said Rev. Rosser. "You can help the needy in our community with your generosity and have fun in the process."
He went on to say that the ministerial association is still looking for businesses and individuals to sponsor holes at a cost of $100 per hole. A sign bearing the name of the business or individual will be placed at the appropriate hole.
Those who wish to sponsor a hole or participate in the tournament are asked to contact Dan Rosser at 706359-3303 or Russell Davis, treasurer of the ministerial association, at 706359-1480.
The deadline to register for the tournament is Wednesday, May 3.
