Friends of the Library's semi-annual book sale will begin Monday, May 1 and run through Saturday, May 6, in the Dova Partridge Annex at the library. Used books may be purchased during library hours on all six days. Baked goods will also be for sale on Saturday. The extended sale days and the indoor location will permit the public to buy books in air-conditioned and inclement-weather comfort.

Our two book sales each year help us to continue our support of the library. We have recently bought two bookcases for the hallway from the main library to the annex. These bookcases neatly hold books that are for sale anytime. Other recent expenditures include $500 toward the beautiful table in the genealogy room, $500 for Christian fiction, and $1,500 for children's books for the Summer Reading Program. We also spent $129 for science books to assist elementary school children in their preparation for the Science Fair. Frank Cory represented Friends of the Library on the judges' panel.

If you have old photographs of buildings or historical places in Lincoln County, we would appreciate your brining them to the library. Our search for suitable pictures to be used in next year's historical calendar is now underway, and we'd like to have more to choose from. We have the equipment to scan them so you can keep your originals. We know many of you must have photographic treasures tucked away somewhere at home. Please share them with us.

Beginning in May we will have wireless capability at the library. This will let people use their wireless computerized equipment without having to plug in anywhere and will make it easy to access the Internet and check e-mail. (I hope you know exactly what I'm talking about here because technology illiterate me had to have the concept explained). We have already purchased the equipment and are just waiting for the hook-up. You may have noticed in the newspapers that several libraries in Augusta are just now getting this capability so we're right in step with the larger libraries in the area.

We'd also like to thank all of you who turned out for our open house to show off the new computer room and the genealogy room. Everyone seemed to have a good time and a lot of admiration for the beautiful genealogy room. Some of us laughed and said we should have an open house every quarter just to let people get together, visit, and eat good food.

We are still taking 2006 memberships. These dues are a big part of the financing for FOL's projects. We'd love to see more teachers and educators join and take part in our activities. We meet every fourth Tuesday of the month at 3:30. This month's meeting will be on April 25.

Recent new members are Brenda E. Stephens, Alvin and Nobie Dean Hawes (family), Frank and Barbara Doyle (family), Frank and Stacy Cory (family), Larry and Emmye Collins (family), John and Helene Rhodes (family).
