GovDeals sells surplus on-line
The Association of County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) has announced a strategic partnership with GovDeals, a provider of on-line surplus auction services for governmental entities.
With over 700 clients nationwide, GovDeals has over 30 Georgia clients including the State of Georgia Department of Administrative Services, the Richmond County Board of Education, the City of Savannah, Columbia County, the Georgia World Congress Center, the City of Roswell, and the Atlanta Regional Commission.
"GovDeals offers a powerful tool in the arsenal of governments seeking to achieve the best return for taxpayers on their governmental assets and property," stated Mike Stewart, the ACCG's assistant director for administration. "Typically, disposition of surplus assets and property such as sheriff's vehicles, heavy equipment, trucks, maintenance equipment, computers, furniture, and seized and confiscated property would be handled at the local level with each government arranging a live public auction.
"What we are achieving here is a synergy that allows all of our governments, no matter their size, the ability to expose their assets and equipment to the largest possible audience," the assistant director continued. "This translates directly into higher values achieved for those assets."
Stewart went on to point out that the State of Tennessee, which has used GovDeals for over three years, recently concluded that GovDeals was getting 47 percent more on average for their equipment and property than could be obtained at live public auctions. "This is a very persuasive statistic, and we are excited about offering our members this powerful service and tool."
