PRUNE SOON
Prune bigleaf or French hydrangeas (H. macrophylla) right after they flower, say experts with the University of Georgia Extension Service.
QUICK CUKES
Cucumbers have a very short "vine storage time," say experts with the University of Georgia Extension Service. When it's warm and humid, fruits on the vine may remain in prime condition for less than 12 hours. For the best tasting cukes, pick early and often. The fruits can be stored for up to two weeks at 45 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit and 95-percent relative humidity. Lower temperatures cause chilling damage, and higher temperatures encourage yellowing. Cucumbers will yellow faster if stored with tomatoes or apples.
BERRY OFTEN Harvest raspberries often to discourage Japanese beetles or sap beetles from becoming troublesome, say experts with the University of Georgia Extension Service. Both insects are especially attracted to ripe and overripe fruit.
