Augusta Technical College and Lincoln County Family Connection are offering GED/Adult Literacy classes Monday Thursday at 1196 B Augusta Hwy. Monday and Wednesday classes are 9 5; Tuesday and Thursday classes are 9 8. Classes will be closed everyday from 1-2 for lunch.

The Terry Tankersley Memorial Trail Ride will be held on Sat., March 25 at Bussey Point Recreation Area from 10 a.m. 6 p.m. Cost is $5 per horse. Primitive camping is available, along with concessions, all day on Saturday with lunch on the point. No dogs please.

A guaranteed $1,000 prize is up for grabs for the first place team that wins the Ninth Annual John de la Howe School Open Bass Tournament that is scheduled for Sat., April 15. Oozeoff will be at 6:30 a.m. The event will be held at Hawe Creek Landing on Lake Strom Thurmond at the Dorn Sports Fishing and Boating Facility in McCormick. Weigh-in begins at 3 p.m.

Entry fee per two-man team is $65 for pre-registration and $75 at the landing. Registration forms may be obtained by contacting Tammy Hill at 864-391-2131 ext. 124 and must be postmarked no later than April 11.

Choirs wanted

The Lincoln County Board of Tax Assessors regular meetings for 2006 will be: Jan. 17; Feb. 21; March 21; April 18; May 16; June 20; July 18; Aug. 15; Sept. 19; Oct. 17; Nov. 21; and Dec. 19.

The meetings will start at 4 p.m. in the Lincoln County Courtroom.

The 2006 River of Life Misson Advance is currently in the planning stages and they are looking for homes whose owners are in need of their help.

Lincoln County and the City of Lincolnton, in partnership with Keep America Beautiful, are asking residents, youth groups, church groups and clubs, to participate in the 2006 Keep Georgia Beautiful clean up drive to be held Sat., April 15 from 8 a.m. 12:30 p.m.

A 4-Man Scramble Golf Tournament will be held Sat., May 13 at Rocky Branch Golf Course. The cost is $150 per team and the proceeds will benefit the Lincoln County Food Pantry and Ministerial Association.

Ebenezer Baptist Church Youth Choir will celebrate its anniversary on Sun., April 23 at 3 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

The Georgia High School Graduation Tests will be given the week of March 27 30 according to the following schedule:

Mon., March 27 language arts; Tues., March 28 math; Wed., March 29 social studies; Thurs., March 30 science; Fri., March 31 make-up testing.

All tests will be given at 8:15 each morning.

New Work Baptist Church Brotherhood will have a yard sale on Sat., April 1 from 7 12 at the church on Double Branches Road. Proceeds will go back into the community.

The Christian Service Organization of Fishing Creek Baptist Church will have a special fund-raising event for the family of Edyee Turner McClain who died Feb. 23 following a long battle with cancer. They will have a country cooking supper Sat., March 25 from 6 8:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Fishing Creek Baptist Church.

Cost is $6 per plate. All proceeds will go to the family. Rev. Roy Cates, pastor, encourages everyone to attend and help this family.

Mulberry C.M.E. Church will be celebrating its annual Men and Women's Day program at 2:30 p.m. on Sun., March 26. Guest speaker will be Rev. Karlton Howard, pastor of Noah's Ark Baptist Church and the host of Augusta television station WJBF's Parade of Quartets. Mr. J. Jeffers will serve as M.C. Rev. Larry Fryer is pastor. There will be a movie night at The Lincoln Center on Fri., March 24, 6 9 p.m. for ages Pre-K to fifth grade. All you can eat popcorn and drinks for $3. Door prizes will be given away. Please bring something soft to sit on.

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in at The Lincoln County Senior Center, 160 May Ave., on Wed., April 19 from 9 11 a.m. for seniors who want free legal (non-criminal) help on a first come, first serve basis.

A Student Development Workshops and Biomedical Research Symposium for high school and college students will be held Sat., March 25 at the Medical College of Georgia. There is no charge for the workshops and research symposium, however, an estimated number is needed by Tues., Feb. 28.

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 194 will have a turkey shoot on Sat., March 25, opening day of turkey season, at the fairgrounds, from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. They will have a drawing for a Remington 12 gauge 870 Super Mag Black Synthetic. McCormick First Baptist Church and Arts Ministry will present the Easter musical, "Grace that Amazes" on Fri., April 7, at 7p.m., followed by an ice cream social, and on Sun., April 9, at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary.

A Living History Program will be held at the Robert Toombs House April 1, 2006 from 11 a.m. 4:30 p.m.

Join living history participants as they portray General Bob (Robert) Toombs, his family and friends in 1863, as Toombs returns home having been wounded at the Battle of Antietum. In an attempt to "go on with life," a barbecue is prepared for tasting, along with games, lively conversation and period activities. The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Association will meet at the Lincoln County Library, 181 N. Peachtree St., on Thurs., March 9 at 11 a.m. All members, retired educators and anyone who plans to retire from the field of education, are asked to be present.

Membership shall be granted, upon payment of dues, to anyone who has retired or who plans to retire, from the field of education. Coleman Kennedy is president.

LWREA to meet

A Praise and Worship Workshop will be held at Parks Grove F.B.H. Church on Fri., March 31, 7:30 p.m. part 1 and Sat., April 1, 9:15 9:45 a.m. coffee and doughnuts, 10 a.m. 2 p.m. part 2.

The Lincoln County Health Department will have the University Hospital Breast Health Center Mobile Mammography Unit visit March 28, 2006.

Anyone interested in having a mammogram done, please telephone the Lincoln County Health Department at 359-3154 to schedule an appointment.

The next nationwide test date for ACT Assessment is April 8, 2006. Registration postmark deadline is March 3. The cost is $29 without and $43 with, the writing test.

Students may receive registration forms from their high school guidance counselor or online at www.act student.org.

The ACT Assessment is an achievement test that includes four exams; English, reading, math and science. Students who take the optional writing test will add 30 minutes to the 3hour normal testing time. Most colleges and universities don't require a writing score, so students should check the writing test requirements of colleges they're considering before registering for the ACT.

Pine Grove UMC will have its annual barbecue fund-raiser Sat., March 25. No tickets are being pre-sold this year. Pick up your plates at Reed Propane, located at 117 N. Peachtree St., from 11 a.m. until they are sold out. One pound of barbecue pork is $8; one pound of hash is $6. Your support is appreciated.
