Auxiliary anniversary Open house Sept. 13

Loco Baptist Church will hold Homecoming Services Sept. 11 with Rev. Kenneth Jones. Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. and worship service begins at 11 a.m. Lunch will follow the worship service.

The American Legion Post 194 will host a dance on Saturday, September 17 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The DJ for the evening will be “Just Ben”, who performed at the post in July. Come on out and enjoy the good fellowship and fun.

The Savannah Lakes Promenaders Square Dance Club will have open house on Tues., Sept. 13 from 7 9 p.m. at the Savannah Lakes Village Activity Center.

Martins Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department will have a barbecue plate sale on Sat., Sept. 10 from 10:30 a.m. 1 p.m. at MCVFD Station 1 on Double Branches Road.

The menu will include barbecue chicken, pork and hash. Cost will be $6 per plate. All proceeds will go to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Barbecue plate sale

The Lincoln County American Legion Post 194 will host its annual fair Sept. 27 Oct. 1 at the American Legion Fairgrounds. More details will follow in the Lincoln Journal.

The Tenth District Women’s Auxiliary anniversary of the deacon and deaconess wives/widows will be held at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church on Sun., Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. Everyone is invited. Rev. Willie J. White is pastor.

An introduction class to Microsoft Word will be held at the Lincoln County Public Library on Fri., Sept. 9, 9 a.m. 12 noon. Only eight openings per class are available so register early by calling 359-4014. A $10 registration fee is required

Computer class

The Lincolnton City Police Dept. will host a Safe Walking Class for those who exercise by walking in town or just walk for the fun of it, at the Club House on Wed., Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.

In an effort to raise money for the LCES PTO, coupon books will be sold with specials from local businesses. There are many variations of specials you can do. The books will contain only local businesses and will be a great way to support our local businesses and our elementary school.

Elijah Clark State Park is looking for photographs of the park taken anytime between now and 1953 when the park was dedicated. They are gearing up for the 75th anniversary of Georgia State Parks and are working on an archive of photos of the park. If you have any pictures, please contact the park at 359-3458. The Lincoln County Office of Emergency Services, 160 School St., will hold an infection control class and incident command class on Aug. 27 beginning at 9 a.m. All fire fighters, rescue/dive team members, and EMS are asked to attend.

Call 359-4855 for more information. There is no charge for the class and it is a GEMA certified class.

Classes at OES

Parents are reminded to form two lines while dropping off or picking up their children at the high school. This causes less traffic congestion on Sunrise Drive and is safer for all involved. School drop off money is used directly to help the victims through the United Methodist Committee on relief No administration cost. There are other items that are needed but money gets the job done fastest right now.

Also, we are getting many requests to be able to house refugees. If anyone in the county can help house people, they can contact one of the United Methodist Churches.

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce and the Miss Classic South Association will present the annual Junior Miss & Miss Lincoln County Pageant at the LCHS Auditorium on Sat., Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.

Applications are now available at the welcome center for young ladies ages 11 20 years. Pageant entry deadline is Fri., Sept. 30. Call 3597970 for more information.

The re-tests for the Georgia High School Graduation Test will be given the week of Sept. 12 16 according to the following schedule: Mon., Sept. 12 language arts; Tues., Sept. 13 math; Wed., Sept. 14 social studies; Thurs., Sept. 15 science; and Fri., Sept. 16 make-up.

All tests will begin at 8:15 a. m. in the portable classroom by the Ag. building. All students should bring two #2 pencils, their social security number and their calculator on math and science re-test days. Graduation re-tests

The Lincoln County Historical Society and the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will host the first ever Fall Southern Gospel Night at 7 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 5 at the Lincoln County Historical Park under the Lewis Family Pavilion.

Pageant slated

You are invited to join the Savannah River Christian Women’s Connection for the “It’s Your Birthday” luncheon on Wed., Sept. 14 from 12:30 2 p.m. at the Tara Golf Club in Savannah Lakes Village. The cost is $11 inclusive.

The feature will be “Come to Your Birthday” with lots of surprises for everyone. Sue McKinlay of Bluffton, S.C. will be the speaker. She transformed from a sad dysfunctional childhood to a happy on top of the world woman.

Auxiliary to meet

The American Legion Post 194 Ladies Auxiliary will meet Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. All members are reminded to bring donations for the food pantry: bleach, washing powder and dish detergent.

Also, white socks and shaving cream are needed for the veterans. Jackie Crook, president, asks all members to please attend as plans are being made for the fair coming Sept. 27 Oct. 1.
