Corps will accept trees for recycling Dec. 21 Jan. 9
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Thurmond Lake will accept real Christmas trees for recycling December 21 through January 9. Christmas trees can be dropped off at Riverside Elementary School, located in Evans, Georgia.
The recycled trees will be used for fish attractors in Thurmond Lake. On January 11, Corps rangers and volunteers will be placing submerged trees around the fishing piers at Amity, Petersburg and Lake Springs Parks in Georgia and Clark Hill Park in South Carolina.
Small trees and brush provide cover for fish, particularly as nursery areas for juvenile fish. In addition, they provide habitat for insects – essential food during the early stages of most fish species. All decorations (tinsel, lights, etc.) must be removed from the trees before dropping them off. Do not dump any household trash at the site.
For more information or to volunteer on January 11, please call the Thurmond Lake Project Office at 1800-533-3478.
