Fall concert planned for Nov. 12 at LBC
The LCMS/LCHS Choral Department will present its fall concert on Saturday, November 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary at Lincolnton Baptist Church.
The theme for the evening is “American Music.”
The high school chorus’ portion of the program will feature numbers from various eras in American music. Among the selections are “When Jesus Wept,” “Old Time Religion,” “Ol’ Dan Tucker,” Irving Berlin’s “America,” songs from the hit musical “Oliver,” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” which will be directed by student conductor Marlena Mason.
In addition, the LCHS Men’s Ensemble will perform “My Lord What a Mornin’,” accompanied on the piano by senior Katie Pike, and the girls’ ensemble will sing “When I Fall in Love,” “Kyrie,” and “Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair.”
The high school soloists for the evening are Ideallian Andrews, John Davis, Cassie Smith, and Jaime Turner.
Also taking the stage will be the LCMS Sixth-Grade Chorus which will perform various American selections including a “Rogers and Hammerstein on Broadway” medley, “How Can I Keep From Singing,” “I’ve Got the World on a String,” “Spiritual Jubilee,” “Grandma’s Feather Bed,” and “Kazoos and Blues Shoes.”
The soloists for the sixth-grade chorus are Hannah Bryant, Kaylee Clary, Casey Cooper, Jason Courtwright, Connor Eades, Morgan Easter, Taylor Fernandez, Jamika Glaze, Brian Herring, Kathryn Poss, Austin Pruitt, and Rachel Tesney.
The concert will conclude with the high school and sixth-grade choruses delivering a beautiful rendition of “Stars and Stripes.”
Both choirs will be accompanied by LCHS junior Peyson Moss, who has served as the pianist for the groups for three consecutive years. He was also the accompanist for the musical theater class’ productions of “Copacabana” and “Grease.”
Moss, who is a student of Ann Harrington of Evans, currently serves as the pianist at First Baptist Church in Washington.
Advance tickets to the concert are being sold by the choral students and in the main office at LCMS. The cost is $5 per ticket. Moreover, tickets will not be sold at the church prior to the concert.
The community is encouraged to come out and enjoy some great musical entertainment while supporting the talented musicians at LCMS and LCHS.
