Alternatives offered to McGahee customers
The customers of McGahee Sanitation were at a loss when the company collected its trash bins and pulled out of Lincoln County without warning on Monday, October 31.
The garbage pickup service left about 500 customers in the south end of the county stranded, wondering what to do with their garbage.
As for David McGahee, the owner of the company, he could not be reached for comment, but county officials indicated that he told them it was the end of the billing cycle and he needed to leave the county for business reasons.
The county has contracted with Advanced Disposal to provide countywide trash pickup beginning January 1, 2006. Until that time, there are two options available to McGahee’s former customers:
(1) They can use the county transfer station on New Petersburg Road which is open from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
(2) Advanced Disposal has agreed to offer Saturday only garbage pickup for a fee of $20 per month, beginning Saturday, November 12. Payment arrangements must be made in advance.
Due to the fact that the company is not prepared to service Lincoln County until January, customers will have to use garbage bags instead of trash containers until sometime after Thanksgiving.
