Mr. Cooper Cliatt, in his recent letter to the editor, states the chief tax assessor works for the Board of Tax Assessors; he does not work for the County Commission.
Perhaps Mr. Claitt should have added that the Board of Assessors is appointed by the County Commission.
And who pays the salary of the chief tax assessor? The Board of Assessors, or Lincoln County?
The methodology Mr. Cliatt delineates may be “designed” to keep politics out of assessing, but the current “practice” is an entirely different matter.
