Attention local merchants, customers and residents of Lincoln County: Main St. and N. Peachtree St. (from the library to Jericho Florist-adjoining Main St.) will be closed to parking and drive through traffic for the 8th Annual Holidays in Olde Lincoln Towne Festival Sat., Nov. 19 from 12 noon 8 p.m.

All roads leading to the specified area will be blocked and detour signs will direct drivers to alternate routes. Certain sidewalks and parking areas will be used for food and craft vendors within the festival area. There will be designated parking outside the festival area.

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will host the 9th Annual Breakfast with our Legislators on Thurs., Dec. 1 from 8 10 a.m. at The Lincoln Center located at 160 May Ave. Tickets are now available at the chamber office, 112 N. Washington St., or from any chamber director for $10 each.

Elijah Clark State Park is looking for photographs of the park taken anytime between now and 1953 when the park was dedicated. Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance will pay for a screening mammogram. This mobile unit is accredited by The American College of Radiology and certified by The Food and Drug Administration.

New Hope Baptist Church will celebrate its 175th anniversary along with Homecoming, on Sun., Nov. 6 beginning with the worship service at 11 a.m. Dinner on the ground will follow around 12:45. The guest speaker will be Dr. Benny Pate, its former pastor and currently a specialist with the Leadership Ministries Department of the Georgia Baptist Convention.

Revival services will be held Mon., Tues., and Wed., Nov. 7-9, at 7 p.m. nightly, with Rev. William H. Harrell, senior pastor of Abilene Baptist Church in Augusta. Music will be led by Tom Smalley, Louise Rice and Peyson Moss. New Hope Homecoming

The Lincoln County Middle School and high school choral department will present its fall concert “American Music” on Sat., Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lincolnton Baptist Church sanctuary.

Advanced tickets are being sold by LCMS and LCHS choral students and in the high school and middle school offices. The cost is $5 per ticket. There will be no tickets sold at the church prior to the concert.

Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce extends an invitation to area horsemen to attend the annual Holiday Trail Ride at Bussey Point Recreation Area on Sat., Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Cost is $5 per horse.

The American Legion Post 194 will meet Nov. 15 at the post home. The executive board will meet at 7 p.m. with the general meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m. All members are encouraged to come out and support your post.

True Fellowship Pentecostal Church will celebrate its anniversary on Sun., Nov. 13 at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Tonita Cody will be the guest speaker. The public is invited. Bishop J. Ware is pastor.

College-bound high school students can take the ACT college admission and placement exam on Dec. 10, the next national test date. The deadline for postmark or on-line registration is Nov. 8. Basic registration fee for the ACT is $29. An additional $14 fee is required for the ACT Writing Test.

The late registration deadline is Nov. 17 (an additional $18 fee is required for late registrations). Students can register with their high school counselor or on-line at www.actstudent.org.

The Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 9 a.m. on Fri., Nov. 11 in the courtyard. Col. Jeffrey G. Smith Jr., director of the Training and Doctrine Command Program Integration Office Network at Fort Gordon, will be the guest speaker.

The ceremony, which is open to the public, will also feature Fort Gordon’s U.S. Army Signal Corps Band and Post Ceremonial Detachment Color Guard as well as the Butler High School Drill Team. Representatives with the Energy Assistance Program are now taking applications to help the homebound and the elderly (65 and older) pay their home heating costs.

Retests for the Georgia High School Graduation Test will be given the week of Nov. 7 11 according to the following schedule.

Mon., Nov. 7 language arts; Tues., Nov. 8 math; Wed., Nov. 9 social studies; Thurs., Nov. 10 science; and Fri., Nov. 11 make-up.

All tests will begin at 8:15 in the portable classroom by the Ag building. All students should bring two #2 pencils, their social security number and their calculator on math and science retest days.

Augusta State University will honor those who have served in the armed forces during its annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony on Fri., Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. in the Quadrangle.

ASU cadets will place American flags on the graves of American soldiers buried in the Arsenal Cemetery prior to the ceremony.

Veteran’s ceremony

The Harvest Benefit Ball will be in full swing with dinner, dancing, a silent auction, and scholarship awards on Sat., Nov. 5, from 7-11 p.m. at The Boathouse. The annual event, hosted by ASU’s Literacy Center, will auction holiday items, gift certificates, and services. Music will be provided by The Escorts, a local variety band.

Highlighting the event will be the presentation of two scholarships to Georgia and South Carolina high school students. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at J. Strom Thurmond Lake will temporarily close the Amity Park boat ramp to complete repaving of the parking lot and roads. The park will close on Mon., Oct. 24 and will reopen no later than Fri., Nov. 18.

The Lincoln County Health Department began administering influenza vaccine on October 4, 2005, beginning with high-risk patients first. Shots are available Mon., Tues., and Fri. 8 a.m. 4 p.m.

Anyone may receive the vaccine as of October 24. The charges for the vaccine this year is as follows: Medicaid, PeachCare, Medicare Part B or $20. Pneumonia vaccine is also available upon request, billable also to Medicaid, PeachCare, Medicare Part B or $20.00.
