Lincolnton First Assembly of God will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Sun., Sept. 25 at 10:45 a.m. with Dr. Samuel R. Chand.

Dr. Chand is chancellor of Beulah Heights Bible College in Atlanta, the country’s largest predominantly African American Bible College. Special music will be presented by the sanctuary choir.

A fellowship luncheon will follow the morning service, along with the burning of its mortgage. Contact the church office at 359-7237 for more information.

The Lincoln County Historical Society and the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will host the first ever Fall Southern Gospel Night at 7 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 5 at the Lincoln County Historical Park under the Lewis Family Pavilion.

A Katrina Community Sale will be held at the Hwy. 378 Open Air Mart on Saturday, October 8 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. All proceeds will go towards Hurricane Katrina relief.

Classes of 1940 1965 of the Lincolnton Colored High School and Lincoln County Training School will have a meeting at 4 p.m. on Sun., Sept. 25 at the public library. Please plan to be in attendance.

Elijah Clark State Park is looking for photographs of the park taken anytime between now and 1953 when the park was dedicated. They are gearing up for the 75th anniversary of Georgia State Parks and are working on an archive of photos of the park. If you have any pictures, please contact the park at 359-3458. Hat Tea Party

Parents are reminded to form two lines while dropping off or picking up their children at the high school. This causes less traffic congestion on Sunrise Drive and is safer for all involved. School drop off money is used directly to help the victims through the United Methodist Committee on relief No administration cost. There are other items that are needed but money gets the job done fastest right now.

Also, we are getting many requests to be able to house refugees. If anyone in the county can help house people, they can contact one of the United Methodist Churches.

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce and the Miss Classic South Association will present the annual Junior Miss & Miss Lincoln County Pageant at the LCHS Auditorium on Sat., Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.

Applications are now available at the welcome center for young ladies ages 11 20 years. Pageant entry deadline is Fri., Sept. 30. Call 3597970 for more information.

The annual Motivational Banquet will be held at Newberry Missionary Baptist Church on Sun., Sept. 25 during the regular worship service (9:15 a.m.).

Once again it’s time to begin planning this school year’s spring musical production. To help fund it, the Musical Theater Booster Club is sponsoring a purse and jewelry party to be held on Thurs., Sept. 22 in the computer lab in the Career, Technical and Agriculture building (formerly the vocational building). The party will start at 3 p.m. and end at 7:30. A piece of jewelry will be given free with each purse purchased. Teri Long, local embroider, will be on hand to assist with your monogramming needs. Cash, credit card and checks will be accepted. Support the arts, our children and get some great deals too.

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Lincoln County to meet with senior citizens wanting free non-criminal legal help, on a first-come, first-serve basis on Wed., Oct. 12 from 11:15 a.m. 1:15 p.m. at the Lincoln County Senior Center, 160 May Ave.

The youth of Lincoln County Family Connection will sponsor a food drive for the Lincoln County Food Pantry as part of Hands on Georgia Week Sept. 26 Oct. 1. Hands on Georgia Week is a catalyst to bring attention to volunteerism and to encourage Georgians to take charge of their communities, not just for this week, but to serve year round.

We are asking the community, county and city government, local churches and businesses to participate by making a food or monetary donation.

The High School Graduation Writing Test will be given on Wed., Sept. 28 starting at 8:15 a.m. Anyone needing to take the test as a retest should be at the school by 8:15 with two #2 pencils, a black or blue ink pen and their social security number.

The U.S. Postal Service is reaching out to reconnect with its employees displaced by Katrina through a toll-free number, 1-877-477-3273, first to make sure the employee is safe; second, to establish contact for future communications.

Postal employees are encouraged to call the “PostalEase” number so they can receive important job related information and, if they receive paper payroll checks rather than electronic deposits, so they can be paid.

Salem United Methodist Church announces its first Fall Festival and Craft Show Sat., Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is invited. Scheduled events includes crafts, emergency services exhibit, race car and go-kart exhibit, kids bouncer, face painting, small kids play zone, fun and games for all ages. There will be black-eyed peas, slaw and cornbread, plus hot dogs and drinks for sale. We are located at the corner of George McDuffie Road and Salem Road in Thomson. Fall festival Nominations wanted

Adult education computer classes are now being offered. Classes begin Mon., Oct. 3 and will meet on Mon., Wed., and Fri. from 2 4:30 p.m. for two weeks. Classes will be held in the Plum Branch, S.C. Adult Education Center and is limited to 12 persons.

Pre-registration and payment are required. Cost is $15 administrative fee. Mail checks to McCormick County Schools, c/o Jim Morrow, 202 Mallard Lane, McCormick, S.C. 29835 or you may call Jim at 864391-2810.

Computer classes

The PSAT will be administered on Wed., Oct. 12 at Lincoln County High School. All tenth graders will take the PSAT free, as provided by the State of Georgia. Juniors who wish to attempt to qualify as National Merit Scholars, or who wish to have scores available for scholarship and college applications, must register to take the PSAT. The fee is $12.00, but that fee is waived for college bound juniors who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Freshmen who wish to take the PSAT for practice only, must register and pay $12.00. There are no fee waivers available for ninth graders.

To register, please go to the Guidance Department at Lincoln County High School before Oct. 7. Upon registering, students will be given a study guide and test taking helps.
