Celebrate fall while enjoying the games, rides, and food at the 53rd Annual Lincoln County Fair which starts Wednesday, September 28, and runs through Saturday, October 1.

Sponsored by Post 194 of the American Legion, the fair will be held at the legion fairground off of the Augusta Highway.

Gates open at 5 p.m. each day.

This year, the fair will feature a multitude of booths on the midway and numerous rides.

Wednesday and Thursday have been designated as “Family Nights;” arm bands allowing visitors to ride as many rides as they want as many times as they want may be purchased at the gate. Furthermore, “Midnight Madness” will hit the fair on Friday, and a “Bingo Matinee” will take place from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday.

In lieu of a general admission charge, fair-goers must pay a parking fee of $3 per car.

In addition to the rides and games, the American Legion Post 194 Ladies Auxiliary will be serving breakfast with a smile from 8 until 10:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday. The menu will feature bacon, eggs, sausage, grits, biscuits, toast, milk, hot chocolate, tea, soft drinks, and coffee.

Then, beginning at 11:30 each day, the menu will shift from breakfast to lunch/dinner fare. From 11:30 a.m. until sometime in the night, fair-goers and the community at large will have the opportunity to sample some of the best food in the South including world-class chicken and dumplings, pinto beans and corn bread, soups, potato salad, slaw, chili, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, cakes, pies, and candy.

According to an auxiliary spokesman, the ladies usually make 50 pounds of potato salad, cook 400 hot dogs, and sell 30 cases of soft drinks during the week.

Likewise, the Sons of the American Legion will be tempting hungry visitors with chicken strips, French fries, fried mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, pizza, and lemonade slushes.

In addition, Paradise Barbecue will be on the premises selling fried pork skins, funnel cakes, and boiled peanuts.
